Job summary

Default Brand is offering a manufacturing co-op placement in Canada to gain exposure across engineering, maintenance, and production environments. The role supports data collection and analysis, process improvements, and documentation updates on a cross-functional team.

The successful student will work on various departments including Production, Maintenance, and Quality, spending time on both floor operations and office tasks while following safety rules and PPE requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with engineering, maintenance, production, quality, or continuous improvement projects.
  • Support the collection, organization, and analysis of operational and production data.
  • Assist with troubleshooting manufacturing processes and equipment issues under appropriate supervision.
  • Participate in process improvement and efficiency initiatives.
  • Support preventative maintenance planning, documentation, and equipment-related projects.
  • Assist with updating procedures, work instructions, drawings, reports, and other departmental documentation.
  • Observe production processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Participate in meetings, project reviews, and departmental activities.
  • Assist with quality investigations, inspections, data collection, and corrective action activities as required.
  • Support health, safety, environmental, and 5S initiatives throughout the facility.
  • Work collaboratively with Production, Maintenance, Engineering, Quality, Materials, EHS, and other departments.
  • Complete assigned projects and provide updates on progress, findings, and recommendations.
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, safety requirements, and plant rules.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

Key Responsibilities

Depending on the assigned department, responsibilities may include:

  • Assist with engineering, maintenance, production, quality, or continuous improvement projects.

Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in a recognized college or university co-op program.
  • Studies in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Technology, Maintenance, Operations, or another related discipline are preferred depending on the placement.
  • Strong willingness to learn and gain hands‑on manufacturing experience.
  • Good communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Comfortable working in both an office and manufacturing/plant environment.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Previous manufacturing, technical, maintenance, or production experience is considered an asset but is not required.

This is a flexible co‑op position intended to provide exposure to multiple areas of a manufacturing operation. The successful student may spend time on the production floor as well as in an office environment and may support more than one department or project during their placement.

Appropriate personal protective equipment must be worn when working in designated areas of the facility.
