Job summary

Aecon Group Inc. invites applications for an EHS co-op role in Ontario. You will support the EHS team with site safety duties, incident reporting, and safety meetings, while gaining exposure to field inspections and documentation management.

Ideal candidates are enrolled in an OHS program, with construction industry exposure, strong communication skills, and proficiency in MS Office. Valid G licence is preferred for on-site work.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a university or college degree/diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
  • Experience in the construction industry is preferred.
  • Knowledge of construction site safety requirements and provincial legislation is an asset.
  • Valid G licence is required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including report preparation.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Solid organizational skills to meet multiple deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Operational support and resources for the EHS team.
  • Compile and submit project Accident/Incident reports with proper filing and tracking.
  • Follow up on corrective actions related to incident reporting.
  • Coordinate and deliver site Employee Safety Meetings.
  • Upload Safety Documentation into files and maintain for audits.
  • Assist in generating and improving safety reporting.
  • Perform Field Behavioral Based Observations (BBOs).
  • Support EHS personnel with field walk-downs and site inspections.
  • Follow up on workplace inspections and propose improvements.
  • Assist with start-up of new work areas and ensure reporting/documentation.
  • Guide new advisors and supervisors in reporting and tracking processes.

Opportunity

Duration of co‑op: 8, 12, or 16 months.

Responsibilities
  • Operational support and resources for the EHS team.

  • Follow up on corrective actions related to incident and accident reporting.
  • Coordinate and deliver site Employee Safety Meetings.
  • Upload Safety Documentation into assigned files and maintain them for audit purposes.
  • Assist in generating and improving safety reporting.
  • Perform Field Behavioral Based Observations (BBOs).
  • Support EHS personnel with field walk‑downs and site inspections.
  • Follow up on workplace inspections.
  • Propose innovations to improve site safety.
  • Support administrative tasks for site orientation.
  • Coordinate distribution of PPE supplies when required.
  • Participate in EHS program improvements.
  • Provide regular feedback to the Safety Manager on activities and reporting status to identify improvement areas.
  • Assist with start‑up of new work areas or projects, including preparation of necessary documentation for reporting and program maintenance.
  • Guide new advisors and supervisors in reporting and tracking processes.
Qualifications
  • Enrolled in a university or college degree/diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
  • Experience in the construction industry.

Salary

The expected pay range for this role is $23–$28 per hour. Individual pay is determined by factors such as location, education, experience, unique skills, and job conditions.
