Job summary

Aecon Concessions is seeking an EHS Advisor to promote health, safety, and environmental culture across projects. The role reports to the EHS Manager and supports Aecon Civil’s mission of delivering infrastructure across Canada and beyond.

The ideal candidate has 4+ years in civil construction safety, knowledge of Ontario regulations, and a willingness to work a mid-day shift with travel to site locations. Competitive pay and benefits are provided.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in civil construction in a Health and Safety role.
  • Strong knowledge of Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Solid understanding of WSIB and related regulations (WHMIS, Asbestos in Construction, Designated Substances).
  • Able to work under pressure with limited supervision and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate site health and safety orientations for workers, owners, and clients.
  • Train supervisors and staff on Aecon Health, Safety and Environmental Manual.

Position Title: EHS Advisor (Mid-Day Shift)

Reports to the EHS Manager. The EHS Advisor will promote a health, safety, and environmental culture across all levels of the organization in alignment with Aecon’s Health, Safety and Environmental Manual.

What is the Opportunity?

The EHS Advisor will play a key role in supporting Aecon Civil’s mission of delivering high‑value infrastructure across Canada, the U.S., and internationally. The role involves actively promoting a health, safety, and environmental culture and ensuring compliance with the related policies and procedures.

What You’ll Do Here:
  • Facilitate employee health and safety orientation, and site‑specific safety orientation to workers, owners and clients.
  • Training supervisors and staff on Aecon Health, Safety and Environmental Manual.
  • Training employees in traffic protection, traffic control person, WHMIS, respiratory protection, emergency response.
  • Coordinate training such as WHMIS, First Aid, Propane etc.
  • Conduct workplace inspections and audits.
  • Conduct behavioral observation in the workplace.
  • Update Material Safety Data Sheets as required.
  • Develop workplace plans – such as emergency evacuations, fire emergency, traffic controls, fall protection.
  • Distribution of safety material supplies and equipment.
  • Safety presentations to clients.
  • Promoting the Aecon safety system to potential industry clients.
  • Participate as a management member of Joint Health and Safety Committees.
  • Conduct studies and analyze accident trends.
  • Inspects project facilities and recommends corrective actions.
  • Co‑ordinate activities of site‑safety coordinators.
  • Working with the Claims Administrator assists with workers compensation claims and associated activities.
  • Develop return to work and modified work programs.
  • Mediate health and safety issues for resolution.
  • Liaise with Government agencies. Prepare and assist with external safety audits.
  • Coordination of environmental issues.
  • Gather and provide statistical information to estimating for tender packages.
What You Bring to the Team:
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in the civil construction industry in a Health and Safety role.
  • National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) and/or Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) certification is considered an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act for Ontario.
  • Strong knowledge of the WSIB.
  • Strong knowledge of other Regulations, e.g. WHMIS, Asbestos in Construction, Designated Substances, Smoking in the Workplace.
  • Self‑motivated with excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and to be proactive.
  • Adaptable to flexible work schedule when required to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work with others as a team.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Flexible availability to work mid‑day shifts Monday to Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., including weekends as needed to meet project and operational demands. Shift hours may be adjusted in the future based on the business needs.
  • This role is within a Joint Venture and will be based out of the launch shaft, with travel required to various site locations along the Yonge Street alignment.

The expected pay range for this role is $80,000 - $110,000 per year.
