Job description

At IATGlobal Manufacturing, we are driven by precision and innovation, crafting custom tooling, fixtures, and automation equipment that empower industries. We are looking for a dedicated and skilled CNC Lathe Operator to join our team, someone who thrives on producing high-quality, intricate components with meticulous attention to detail. This is an exciting opportunity for a machinist who values variety, takes immense pride in their craftsmanship, and enjoys tackling unique challenges in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Set up and operate CNC machining centres (mill and/or lathe) to produce precision components according to engineering specifications.
  • Interpret complex engineering drawings, including GD&T, tolerances, surface finish callouts, and datum references, ensuring faithful reproduction.
  • Load and prove out programs, accurately set work offsets and tool offsets, and make necessary dimensional adjustments to maintain tight tolerances.
  • Select, install, and meticulously inspect cutting tools; proactively monitor wear and replace as required to uphold quality standards.
  • Securely load, locate, and clamp workpieces using a variety of vises, fixtures, and precision workholding methods.
  • Execute thorough in-process and first-article inspections utilizing precision instruments such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, height gauges, indicators, and gauge pins.
  • Machine a diverse range of materials, including various alloy and tool steels (e.g., 4140), stainless steel, cast iron, and aluminum.
  • Accurately document inspection results, setup sheets, and any non-conformances, contributing to our quality control processes.
  • Collaborate effectively with programming, engineering, and quality teams to resolve drawing queries, address fit issues, and propose process improvements.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance, including monitoring coolant levels and concentration, chip removal, lubrication, and filter checks, to ensure optimal machine performance.
  • Maintain a pristine, organized, and safe work area, adhering strictly to all health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Actively support and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on enhancing cycle time, tooling selection, and setup efficiency.

Requirements & Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of hands-on CNC machining experience within a precision manufacturing setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to confidently read and interpret engineering drawings, with practical application of GD&T principles.
  • Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments and a proven capability to consistently work to tight tolerances.
  • Solid working knowledge of speeds, feeds, and effective tooling selection across a range of materials.
  • Comfortable with making offset adjustments and independently troubleshooting dimensional issues to ensure part quality.
  • Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
  • Reliable attendance and a willingness to support overtime as production demands require.
  • Preferred:
  • General Machinist (429A) certificate of qualification or completion of a recognized apprenticeship.
  • Experience with Fanuc, Heidenhain, Siemens, or Mazak controls.
  • Proficiency in editing G-code at the machine and/or working knowledge of CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, NX, Esprit).
  • Experience with 4-axis or 5-axis machining, horizontal machining centres, or pallet-based systems.
  • A background in tooling, fixtures, jigs, or low-volume/high-mix job shop environments.
  • Previous experience in automotive, aerospace, or heavy industrial manufacturing sectors.
  • Familiarity with CMM inspection or a history of collaborating with a quality department on first articles.
