Job description

Job Purpose

The CNC Machinist is responsible for the independent setup, operation, troubleshooting, and optimization of CNC machine tools within a precision manufacturing environment. As an experienced member of the machine shop team, the CNC Machinist is expected to interpret engineering drawings, develop and optimize machining processes, perform complex machine setups, and ensure parts are manufactured to specification while maintaining high standards of quality, productivity, and safety.

This position requires a strong understanding of CNC machining principles, tooling, workholding, feeds and speeds, and precision measurement techniques. The CNC Machinist will play an active role in continuous improvement initiatives, process development, mentoring less experienced machinists, and supporting ICOR Technology's commitment to quality, efficiency, and on-time delivery.

Role – Typical Duties
  • Independently set up, operate, and troubleshoot CNC machining centers, lathes, boring mills, and other CNC equipment.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, CAD models, work instructions, and specifications to determine machining requirements.
  • Select appropriate tooling, workholding, cutting parameters, and machining sequences to maximize efficiency and quality.
  • Perform first‑off inspections and verify dimensions using precision measuring instruments.
  • Monitor machining operations and make offsets and process adjustments as required to maintain dimensional accuracy and surface finish requirements.
  • Diagnose and resolve machining, tooling, and equipment‑related issues with minimal supervision.
  • Optimize machining processes to improve cycle times, quality, and overall productivity.
  • Perform machine setups, tool changes, fixture installations, and prove‑out of new and repeat jobs.
  • Read, understand, and edit CNC programs, preferably using Fanuc controls and Mastercam cad/cam.
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production personnel to resolve manufacturing challenges.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior machinists and machine operators.
  • Maintain accurate production and inspection records as required.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance, cleaning, lubrication, and equipment inspections.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities and provide recommendations for process enhancements.
  • Maintain compliance with all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support production schedules while maintaining ICOR Technology quality standards and customer commitments.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications Required
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Machinist Apprenticeship, Journeyperson Certificate, or post‑secondary education in Machining, Manufacturing, or Mechanical Engineering Technology is considered an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years of CNC machining experience in a manufacturing or precision machine shop environment.
  • Demonstrated experience performing complete machine setups and running jobs independently.
  • Experience with Fanuc‑controlled CNC machines preferred.
  • Experience using Mastercam 2025.
  • Experience machining a variety of materials including aluminum, stainless steel, brass, plastics, and specialty alloys.
Technical Skills
  • Strong knowledge of CNC machining processes, tooling, cutting conditions, and workholding techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T.
  • Proficient in the use of precision measuring equipment including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, height gauges, indicators, and other inspection tools.
  • Strong understanding of machining tolerances, fits, and surface finish requirements.
  • Ability to edit CNC programs and make machine‑side program adjustments.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance practices for CNC machine tools.
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.
