Job summary

Surrey Police Service is seeking Auxiliary Cell Guards to monitor prisoners via CCTV, serve meals, and keep detailed logs. The role requires strong observation, calmness in emergencies, and police security clearance. Training and ongoing certification are expected as part of employment with SPS.

Shifts include days, nights, weekends and holidays with a rotating four-on/four-off pattern described for full-time staff; hours and availability may vary by operational needs.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of Grade 12, or equivalent, supplemented by related training and experience.
• A valid Emergency First Aid and CPR C certification with AED is required.
• All applicants must obtain and maintain the required police security clearance throughout their employment with SPS, including a polygraph examination.

Responsibilities

• Monitor prisoners' well-being using closed-circuit TV and maintain logs.
• Prepare and serve meals and manage daily prisoner records.
• Maintain documentation attached to C-13 prisoner forms.
• Answer inquiries about jail procedures and provide information to supervisors.
• Monitor supplies and assist in cell maintenance and first aid when needed.
• Support other staff in performing their duties.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Surrey Police Service (SPS) has an exciting opportunity for auxiliary Cell Guard Positions.The Cell Guard is responsible for monitoring prisoners' well-being usingclosed-circuit TV, preparing and serving meals, and maintaining detailedrecords, including prisoner logs and incident reports. This role ensures properdocumentation, responds to inquiries about jail procedures, and providesinformation to superiors and Surrey Police Service (SPS) officers. Additionalduties include monitoring supplies, reporting cell maintenance needs, assistingin emergency first aid, and supporting fellow staff.

Theideal candidate has strong communication skills, follows SPS policies andprocedures, and remains calm in emergencies. They possess excellentobservational skills, attention to detail, and proficiency with photographicand computer equipment, including SPS policing systems. Knowledge of the legalsystem, safety regulations, and SPS operations is an asset. Physical strength,stamina, and police security clearance are required.

Schedule/ Hours of Work

To beeligible for this auxiliary position, incumbents must be able to commit to aminimum of eight (8) days (Day and Night shifts) of availability per month.Shifts may include weekdays, evenings, weekend and holidays. Assigned shifts

may beprescheduled or by call-in.

Theanticipated schedule for a full-time position is 40 hours per week, whichfollows rotating shift pattern of four days on followed by four days off. Eachshift is 12 hours long, with each rotation including two-day shifts andtwo-night shifts.Please note, the hoursare subject to change based on operational needs and adherence to theCollective Agreement.

Uses closed circuit TV incells to check prisoners' physical condition.

Prepares and serves mealsto prisoners.

Maintains daily records,including prisoner log, meal counts, and incident reports.

Ensures completeddocumentation is attached to C-13 prisoner forms.

Handles inquiries relatedto the jail procedures and prisoners in custody.

Provides information tosuperiors and Surrey Police Service (SPS) police officers regarding prisoners.

Monitors and maintainssupplies.

Advises supervisor ofnecessary cell maintenance.

Assists in first aid onprisoners in emergency situations.

Assists other staff inperforming their duties.

QUALIFICATIONS
