Job summary

Simon Fraser University is seeking an Awards Assistant to support the Manager, Student Awards in adjudicating and processing bursaries, awards, and scholarships. You will handle applications, nominations and inquiries, ensuring accurate records and compliance with policies.

The role involves liaising with external agencies and maintaining databases while contributing to a collaborative, deadline-driven environment within the Financial Aid and Awards team.

Qualifications

  • High school graduation and one year of post-secondary education including courses or formal training in word processing, database, and spreadsheet applications; bookkeeping practices; and office procedures.
  • 3 years of related experience. An equivalent combination of formal education, certificate/program of study and experience is acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Process bursaries, undergraduate and service awards, and undergraduate private and endowed scholarships in accordance with university policies and office procedures.
  • Respond to inquiries from students, staff, faculty and the public regarding all financial aid and awards programs, deadlines, and policies; maintain accurate student financial aid and awards records; liaise with external agencies; enhance and maintain databases of university and external sources of financial aid and awards programs.

The Awards team, within Financial Aid and Awards, administers undergraduate scholarships, awards, bursaries, athletic awards, entrance scholarships, and externally funded programs. The team manages the full award cycle, including application administration, adjudication, funding approvals, and award disbursement.

Our primary function is to connect students with financial support that recognizes academic achievement, leadership, community involvement, athletic excellence, and financial need. We work closely with students, academic and administrative departments, and external funding organizations to ensure funding is administered accurately and in accordance with university policies, procedures, and donor agreements.

About the Role

The Awards Assistant assists the Manager, Student Awards in the adjudicating and processing of all bursaries, undergraduate and service Awards and undergraduate private and endowed scholarships. In accordance with University policies, government policies and office procedures, this position is responsible for processing student applications and department/faculty nominations for scholarships, bursaries, work-study, awards and prizes. The position also responds to inquiries from students, staff, faculty and the public regarding all financial aid and awards programs, deadlines, and University and government financial aid and awards policies and procedures. Responsibilities of the position include maintaining accurate student financial aid and awards records, liaising with external agencies and enhancing and maintaining databases of University and external sources of financial aid and awards programs.
