Job summary

Canada Life in Winnipeg, MB is seeking a Permanent Full Time Claims Processor to join the Life Claims team in our office. You will manage the claims workflow, set up new claims for adjusters, handle inquiries, and ensure timely processing of payments and records.

The role requires attention to detail, strong communication, and ability to work under strict deadlines. Base salary ranges from CAD 34,900 to CAD 47,200 per year, with potential for additional rewards.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Index all claim documents in LES for new and existing claims.
  • Set up new claims for adjusters to assess and pay.
  • Follow up for missing information and issue funeral advances.
  • Handle external calls and inquiries via toll-free line.
  • Process mail and distribute to appropriate files and teams.
  • Monitor inbox and forward/attach documents as needed.
  • Coordinate payments and vouchers, including large payments.
  • Maintain and purge records and file closed files.
  • Distribute reports and maintain departmental records.
  • Assist with scanning, copying, and mailing letters.
  • Other duties as assigned.

We are looking for a Claims Processor to join us in our Winnipeg Office.

The Claims Processors (Life Claims) are responsible for the overall department workflow. They must meet very strict deadlines in order to deliver new claims to the Analysts and Processors in a timely manner to ensure ample time for the adjusters to assess the claims. A backlog in this unit adversely affects the ability of Group Life Benefits to meet its service targets.

The Claims Processors are the first point of contact in the department, managing our general inbox with claim submissions and inquiries, as well as our toll-free line. Proper maintenance of departmental records assists the entire department by ensuring that required information is easily accessible. Advance payments are mailed within 24 hours of receipt of the request.

What You’ll Do
  • Index all claim documents through our electronic claim system (LES) into new and existing claims;
  • Set up new claims for adjusters to assess and pay;
  • Follow up for missing information and issue funeral advances as required;
  • Responsible for external phone calls;
  • Handle incoming and outgoing mail including investigation and redirection as necessary;
  • Monitor general department outlook inbox, answer inquiries, add to claim files or forward as needed;
  • Pick up cheques and tax forms from lock box. Coordinate special handling for payments in excess of $500,000;
  • File merge & purge vouchers and reports, maintain closed file records and forward closed files to company records;
  • Maintain departmental records & distribute reports
  • Handle in office tasks such as scanning, photocopying, mailing letters;
  • Other duties as assigned.
What You Bring
  • Communication: Interact effectively with all members of the department and with other departments, such as Selectpac, Member Administration, Group In-force Admin. & Banking. As phone Attendant, has daily contact with clients, claimants and brokers/sales representatives. Bilingual communication skill is desired;
  • Customer Service: Effectively determines & satisfies customers needs in a timely, accurate & courteous manner;
  • Attention to detail: Demonstrates a high level of accuracy and thoroughness in all aspects of work. Carefully reviews information, identifies errors or inconsistencies, and ensures tasks are completed correctly the first time. Maintains organized records, follows processes precisely, and consistently delivers high-quality results while meeting deadlines and metrics.
  • Teamwork: Works well independently within a team environment. Shares information and fosters cooperation and builds relationships within the team;
  • Managing change: Effectively handles the pressures of deadlines and fluctuating workloads;
  • Technical skills: Proficient in the use of the technical tools required to complete all tasks:
    • Windows;
    • FileNet (Life Electronic System)
    • Access Database (Life Claims Tracking);
    • Excel;
    • Word;
    • Mainframe applications PAS/ EAS/ LCW/ Prolific.

The base salary for this position is between $34,900- $47,200 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).
