Job summary

Canada Life in Regina, SK or Langley, BC is seeking a detail-oriented Disability Claims Administrator for a hybrid role with in-office presence two days per week. The role centers on calculating and issuing long-term disability benefits and interpreting contractual provisions.

You will maintain claims, perform complex calculations, explain tax implications to clients, and support the claims team with data and reports. Strong numeracy and communication are essential.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education with a financial background or equivalent experience.
  • Strong math and analytical skills are essential.
  • Excellent communication, both oral and written, and customer service focus.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and able to learn new software quickly.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid environment with teammates and on your own.

Responsibilities

  • Calculate and issue long-term and short-term disability benefit payments.
  • Explain benefit calculations and tax implications to customers by phone or write-up.
  • Maintain long-term disability claims, verify income, handle updates and adjustments.
  • Perform complex LTD calculations including inflation, COLA, rehabilitation and partial periods.
  • Handle over/underpayments and follow up for repayments and BEN refunds.
  • Collaborate with claims teams and manage data verification and reports.

The Disability Claims Administrator is primarily responsible for calculating and issuing long-term disability benefit payments. This includes interpreting contractual provisions to determine benefit entitlement including offsets and tax requirements utilizing the payment and management systems. The Disability Claims Administrator will be handling all calculation related inquiries and managing the maintenance of long-term disability claims in accordance with contractual and corporate policies.

What you will do:
  • For new claims, complete the financial information including the initial benefit calculation, the DLR and waiver reserve set up
  • Calculate and issue short-term and long-term disability benefit payments
  • Perform straight forward LTD benefit calculations including inflation protection, cost of living increases, rehabilitation, and partial period calculations in accordance with contractual provisions
  • Perform straight forward under/overpayment calculations, follow up for repayment, processing BEN refunds and adjustments
  • Explain benefit calculations and payments, including tax issues to customers over the phone or in writing
  • Follow-up CPP
  • For maintenance of long-term disability claims, request and assess medical updates, verify other income calculations, and follow ups as required
  • Other administrative and financial duties in support of claims teams as required
  • Handling data verification and exception reports to resolve system discrepancies

  • Post-secondary education with a strong financial background or equivalent related experience

  • Proficient in using Microsoft (Outlook, Word, Excel) and possess the aptitude for learning additional industry-related software
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to remain flexible, work as part of a team as well as independently
  • Reliability Status Security Clearance– this can only be completed with candidates who receive an offer of employment. This is a personal security status that is required as a condition of employment before an employee can gain access to Protected B information, assets or work sites as outlined by theGovernment of Canada website. The cost of submitting these checks will be covered by Canada Life.

The base salary for this position is between $41,200 - $58,600 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).
