Job summary

Salus Mutual Insurance Company is seeking a Claims Manager to lead the department from first notice to close, setting standards and directing investigations across Ontario. The role requires coordinating with branch offices and travel as needed to support operations.

You will guide a team of adjusters, ensure policy adherence, and drive strategic initiatives to enhance customer service and efficiency within a policyholder-owned organization.

Qualifications

• Ten years of related claims experience across property, auto, and liability.
• Minimum three years of managerial experience coaching and developing a team.
• Postsecondary education; CIP designation or coursework is an asset; valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day operations of the department, including workflows, service delivery standards, and file quality with travel to branches.
• Supervise, coach, and develop the claims team, including evaluations and recruitment.
• Establish and maintain claims policies, procedures, manuals, and performance standards with the Technical Claims Specialist.
• Monitor reserve adequacy across files, maintain anti-fraud controls, and authorize claims beyond adjuster limits.
• Attend settlement, mediation, arbitration, and court proceedings as required and supervise field investigations.
• Develop a departmental plan aligned with the Company’s Strategic Plan and improve processes.
• Prepare department reports for internal/external use and ensure data distribution to regulators and boards.
• Respond to inquiries, resolve complaints, and collaborate with Admin, Sales/Marketing, and Underwriting.
• Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and legislation; handle sensitive information discreetly.
