Job summary

Amrize is seeking a Civil Leadhand to support civil construction crews on excavation, grading, site prep, asphalt and concrete projects. This hands-on role reports to the Civil Foreperson and focuses on safe, efficient daily operations.

You will lead by example, operate and supervise equipment, prepare sites, coordinate crew activities, ensure quality and compliance, and mentor teammates while maintaining a strong safety culture on North American projects.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; construction-related training/leadership dev is a plus.
  • Experience leading or guiding construction crews in civil projects (3+ years).
  • Ability to read drawings and follow project specs; strong safety focus.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily construction activities with the Civil Foreperson.
  • Perform hands-on civil tasks: grading, site prep, concrete, asphalt.
  • Operate construction equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Provide direction and support to crew members.
  • Prepare job sites, materials, and equipment for daily operations.
  • Ensure work meets project specs and quality standards.
  • Mentor and train employees; promote safety culture.
  • Communicate progress and field conditions to Foreperson.

About The Role

Amrize is looking for an experienced Civil Leadhand to support civil construction crews completing excavation, grading, site preparation, asphalt, concrete, and related infrastructure projects. The Civil Lead Hand is a hands‑on field position responsible for performing daily construction activities, operating equipment, and providing guidance and support to crew members. This role will assist the Civil Foreperson with coordinating daily operations while ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements and quality standards.

What You’ll Accomplish
  • Support the Civil Foreperson in coordinating daily construction activities and crew operations.
  • Perform hands‑on civil construction activities including grading, site preparation, concrete work, asphalt, and related infrastructure tasks.
  • Operate construction equipment, tools, and machinery safely and effectively within training and competency requirements.
  • Provide direction, guidance, and support to crew members to ensure work is completed safely and efficiently.
  • Assist with preparing job sites, materials, and equipment required for daily operations.
  • Ensure completed work meets project specifications, quality standards, and company expectations.
  • Support the training, coaching, and development of employees through hands‑on guidance and mentorship.
  • Promote safe work practices by identifying hazards, completing required safety documentation, and supporting a strong safety culture.
  • Communicate daily progress, equipment needs, and field conditions to the Civil Foreperson.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.
What We’re Looking For
Education

High School Diploma or equivalent. Construction‑related training or leadership development considered an asset.

Required Work Experience

Minimum three (3) years of experience in construction, civil construction, grading, or related industry. Experience providing direction or support to construction crews. Experience with excavation/grading equipment and construction processes. Experience with concrete placement, paving, or general construction activities is considered an asset.

Required Technical Skills

Knowledge of grading processes, construction methods, and equipment operations. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and project specifications. Ability to understand project requirements and support quality control processes. Strong understanding of construction safety practices and procedures.

Travel Requirements

Travel may be required between project sites.

  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment (\"PPE\"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
