Qualifications

  • 5+ years as a Foreman in the construction industry.
  • Journeyman trade certification (Civil/Electrical) required.
  • Ability to read and interpret utility locates/blueprint drawings.

The Shallow Utilities Foreman is located in Edmonton AB and reports directly to the Project Manager or his Designate. The Foreman will assist with overall project performance and status from start to finish and in accordance with schedule, specifications and budget. They manage labor and subcontractor schedules, safety, and quality, and keep management well-informed of progress, discrepancies, questions, and any impacts on project plan and schedule.

Duties And Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To

  • Full understanding of the Construction Project Scope safety and environmental requirements
  • Leads crews in such things as, HSE, Safety toolbox, tail board meetings, mentoring and training
  • Oversees a team of conduit installers / labors and operators at the construction site
  • Act as an intermediary between his team and the Superintendent
  • Monitors the attendance and efficiency of the crew
  • Resolves amicably any conflicts or issues that may arise on the site
  • Trains the staff to meet work requirements and coordinates with them daily
  • Ensure project production is enhanced & profitable
  • Reports the project status and communicates regularly with superintendents
  • Plans, schedules and Leads Construction and Maintenance Crews with daily tasks working safely and meeting productivity in the field
  • Reads and interprets traffic, streetlight, construction drawings/plans, packages, and associated project documents, related to the excavation and installation of precast and cast in place concrete pole and cabinet bases, junction boxes, conduits, etc
  • Provides lead direction in setting up, installing, and initiating the operations of equipment at a field site
  • Responsible for installation of traffic signals- steel structures, excavation, and backfilling of conduits/raceways
  • Maintains records of all maintenance activities in accordance with contractual requirements
  • Assist in other related duties as required, including scheduling, logistics, quality performance monitoring, etc
  • Must have the ability to work independently

Education Requirements

  • High School Diploma

Work Experience Requirements

  • Construction safety certifications
  • 5+ years as a Foreman in the construction industry
  • Project experience in related construction sector
  • Journeyman trade certification (Civil/Electrical)

Skills, Abilities, And Other Requirements

  • Ability to work safely
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Possesses a valid Alberta Driver's License, Class 5 (or 1, 3 would be considered an asset), and a clean drivers abstract
  • Experience in reading and interpreting utility locates/blueprint drawings, and ordering materials such as aggregates
  • Ground Disturbance Certification

Proficient Knowledge And Understanding Of

  • Construction scheduling, planning, and execution
  • Blueprint reading
  • Project structural design interpretation
  • Established construction practices, procedures and techniques
  • Applicable local and provincial labour codes
  • Managing / leading union and non-union staff
  • Organization and time management

Construction Safety Certifications including the following are considered assets.

  • Traffic Control Person (TPS) Certification
  • Flagging Certification
  • Confined Space Awareness/Rescue
  • Fall Arrest
  • WHMIS
  • First Aid
  • Leadership for Safety Excellence (LSE)
