Job summary

The Salvation Army in Canada is seeking a temporary, part-time Christmas Support Worker to assist the Family Care Centre with the Christmas program, including kettles and toy hampers. The role is 25 hours per week with varying shifts, and requires lifting up to 50 lbs and local travel as needed.

Primary duties include processing donations, distributing hampers, data recording, and supporting volunteers during the holiday season.

Qualifications

  • Completed High School or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one year of prior related experience working in community-based programs.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office products and good working knowledge of email and internet-based programs.
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License and access to a personal vehicle with insurance.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with processing, unloading, documenting, and sorting donations of toys and food for the Christmas program.
  • Assist with pickups of food and toy donations from community donors using program vehicle.
  • Assist with set up and takedown of toy and food Christmas hampers distribution centre.
  • Record statistical data clearly, organized, and accurately.
  • Support the Kettle campaign and manage volunteers as needed.

Job Description: Position Purpose summary: The Christmas Support Worker provides support to the Family Care Centre during the Christmas season on a temporary basis. This includes Christmas Kettles and Christmas Toy Hampers.

Accountabilities: Assist with processing, unloading, documenting, and sorting donations of toys and food for the Christmas program and assist with preparing donated items for distribution. Assist with pick-ups of food and toy donations from community donors using program vehicle. Assist with set up and take down of toy and food Christmas hamper distribution centre. Assist with sorting toy donations. Record statistical data in a clear, organized, and accurate manner. Maintain confidentiality in all areas. Assist in the Kettle campaign where needed through dropping off documentation, covering breaks, checking on volunteers, picking up donations at end of day. Perform other related duties as required.

Working Conditions: This is a temporary part-time position based on 25 hours per week. The pay is $19 per hour. Shifts may include days, afternoons, evenings, weekend shifts, and split shifts, Monday through Saturday. Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break. Flexibility in scheduling is required, as the hours may increase as per operational requirements closer to Christmas. Required to wear appropriate Salvation Army identification. Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs. (11.34 kgs) in a safe manner. Local travel may be associated with this position. The above responsibilities must be performed in keeping with The Salvation Army’s Mission, Vision, and Values, in a professional manner, upholding our code of conduct.

Education, Qualifications and Certifications: Completed High School or equivalent Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements: Minimum of one (1) year of prior related experience working in community-based programs would be a definite asset. Strong skills in all Microsoft Office products and good working knowledge and experience with email and internet-based programs Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, personal vehicle required and insurance, current copy of driver’s abstract for review and verification that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.

Compensation: The target hiring range for this position is $18.50 to $23.13 with a maximum of $27.76. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
