Job summary

The City of Saskatoon is seeking a Childcare Supervisor to assist with supervising childcare workers and ensuring a safe, engaging environment for children aged 2 months to 5 years.

Under supervision of the Recreation Technician 13, you will monitor activities, manage daily attendance, and maintain clean, safe facilities while providing basic activities and comforting care as needed. Weekend and shift work are required.

Qualifications

  • Grade 10 education.
  • One year of related childcare experience; supervisory preferred.
  • CPR and first aid certificates valid.
  • Clean criminal record check upon offer.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises childcare workers and ensures adequate staffing.
  • Maintains daily attendance logs and evaluations.
  • Monitors children aged 2 months to 5 years for safety.
  • Keeps activity area clean and safe; sets up activities.
  • Performs diaper changes and comforting as needed.
  • Cleans toys and equipment.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Job description

This position is a CUPE 59 position and will be filled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Should it not be filled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, external candidates will be considered.

Job Summary

Under supervision of the Recreation Technician 13, this position supervises the Childcare Workers, and monitors the activities of children, ensuring an environment and atmosphere conducive to safe, enjoyable activity.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Supervises Childcare Workers. Ensures adequate staff is in place to provide childcare services.
  • Prepares daily attendance logs tracking participation in the program; completes evaluation forms.
  • Monitors the activities of children ranging in age from 2 months to 5 years, ensuring an environment and atmosphere conducive to safe, enjoyable activity.
  • Ensures that the activity area is neat, clean and that the equipment is safe, before and after each day.
  • Provides basic activities such as story-telling, crafts and games.
  • Performs parental duties such as changing diapers and comforting, as required.
  • Cleans toys and equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience Requirements:

  • Grade 10 education.
  • One year’s related childcare experience. Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Possession of valid recognized CPR and first aid certificates.
  • Acceptable current criminal record check upon offer of employment.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

  • Knowledge of current childcare standards and practices.
  • Knowledge of first aid practices.
  • Ability to deal effectively and tactfully with children, the public and staff.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Requires Security Check

Acceptable current Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) upon offer of employment.

Additional Requirements

Shift work and weekend work are involved.

Weekly Hours:Determined by department

Salary Range:$21.46to$23.67CADper hour (2026rates)
