About the Opportunity
The Child Care Navigator partners with early learning and child care services and program, Métis families and communities throughout the province and provides consistent, distinctions-based, and Métis-led delivery of child care supports and services. The Navigator works to increase the availability and accessibility of high-quality child care resources and services that support the needs of Métis children and families. The position works collaboratively with the Ministry of Education team, Métis families and Métis Chartered communities to advance the successful, efficient, and effective delivery of MNBC Métis early years programs and services.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Promotes the Ministry of Education – Early Years programs, Affordable Child Care Benefit Program (ACCB), Métis
Child Care Benefit Program and other child care related services in the community.
• Develops, implements, and monitors recruitment, assessment, training, and support strategies for RLNR child care providers.
• Assists current Registered License-Not-Required (RLNR) child care providers.
• Liaises with MCFD and other government agents involved in implementation of the ACCB program.
• Provides information sessions on the ACCB program and how to apply for it to parents and guardians.
• Responds to enquiries from parents and guardians seeking child care and makes referrals to local Child Care Resource and Referral programs and other child care services based on the parents’ and child’s specific needs.
• Assists parents and caregivers in completing the ACCB and Métis Child Care Benefit Program applications and forms.
• Recruits and provide professional learning, workshops and networking opportunities for child care providers this includes Métis traditional teachings based on Métis pedagogy and Métis core values.
• Provides cultural materials, resources and workshop deliver. As well, builds partnerships with early learning and child care professionals to provide information on Metis early years supports.
• Participates in committees and project teams as required.
• Undertakes related duties as assigned, consistent with the job grade of the position.
• Other duties may be assigned as needed to ensure the efficient operation of MNBC.
• Regular/ occasional attendance at meetings/ events that may require work and travel outside of normal business hours.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Diploma in Early Childhood Education, Community Support Work, K - 3 Education or related field from a recognized, post-secondary institution.
• Minimum three (3) years’ experience in the early years’ field or public-school system.
• A comprehensive knowledge of the Childcare BC Plan.
• Knowledge of early years’ organizations, agencies, and service providers.
• A combination of relevant experience, education, and training may be considered.
• Previous experience working in an Indigenous Community, with strong knowledge of Métis culture and history, is considered an asset.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
• Proven ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work with minimal supervision.
• Proven ability to utilize, adapt and embrace new technologies, including MS Word, Excel and other database/software required by the role.
• Demonstrated skills with adapting to change and being flexible are essential.
• Knowledge and/or awareness of the historical and contemporary contributions made by Métis people in B.C.
• Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a Class 5 driver’s licence may be required.
• The position may require the completion of a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
