About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Chief Safety Officer to lead the health, safety, and environmental (HSE) function for their extensive mining operations near Kimberley . This senior leadership role requires a visionary individual to set the HSE strategy, foster a zero-harm culture, and ensure full compliance with all legislative requirements. You will be responsible for managing the HSE department, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and acting as the primary advisor to senior management on all safety-related matters. This is a critical role in safeguarding our most valuable asset – our people.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and champion the company's overarching Health, Safety, and Environmental strategy.
• Oversee the management of all HSE policies, procedures, and management systems across all operations.
• Lead and mentor the HSE team, ensuring effective implementation of safety programs and initiatives.
• Conduct high-level risk assessments and ensure robust risk management frameworks are in place.
• Act as the primary liaison with regulatory bodies on all HSE matters.
• Drive a proactive safety culture through engagement, training, and visible leadership.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Management, or a related field.
• A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in HSE management, with at least 10 years in a senior leadership role within the mining industry.
• Extensive knowledge of South African mine health and safety legislation (MHSA) and environmental laws.
• Proven track record in developing and implementing successful safety management systems and reducing incident rates.
• Exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, and stakeholder management skills.
• Professional registration with a relevant body is highly desirable.
