Chief Operating Officer (COO) – Role Overview
Leadership in Operations and Supply Chain
Responsible for the end-to-end leadership of global supply chain functions, including planning, procurement, inventory, customer order management, logistics, and distribution. Champion enterprise-wide operational excellence by standardizing and centralizing processes to reduce costs, enhance speed, and streamline workflows. Oversee all operational areas: supply planning, new product launches, inbound/outbound logistics, warehousing, distribution, quality assurance, HR, IT, commercial operations, and administration. Excel in transforming complex operational data into actionable strategies, with a proven track record of building and leading high-performing teams through coaching, mentoring, and continuous development.
Strategic Finance and Business Management
Provide strategic financial oversight of all operations, including cost management, capital planning, forecasting, and reporting. Collaborate with the CFO and executive leadership to manage company-wide P&L and ensure financial alignment across departments. Drive initiatives to reduce Cost of Goods Sold (COGS), optimize working capital, and improve gross margins through operational improvements. Partner in the development and execution of annual budgets, strategic business plans, and long-term financial roadmaps.
ERP and Technology Oversight
Lead strategic implementation and optimization of enterprise systems (including SAP IBP), ensuring integration across finance, operations, and supply chain functions. Identify and deploy technology-driven solutions that improve decision-making, data accuracy, and operational efficiency. Work closely with IT to ensure system robustness, cybersecurity, and scalable infrastructure to support business growth.
Operational Optimization
Architect and implement strategies for continuous improvement in cost, process efficiency, and resource utilization. Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs); use data analytics to drive performance, accountability, and corrective actions.
Cross-Functional and Executive Collaboration
Serve as a key partner to the CEO and executive team on corporate strategy, operational planning, and organizational scaling. Align operational goals with company objectives through close collaboration with finance, sales, marketing, product development, QA/QC, and regulatory affairs. Drive integrated planning processes, ensuring seamless coordination across departments and functions.
Risk Management and Regulatory Compliance
Identify business risks and lead the development of risk mitigation and business continuity strategies. Ensure compliance with all regulatory and safety standards, including GMP, Health Canada, and international logistics regulations. Champion safety and compliance initiatives across all operational areas.
People Leadership and Culture
Recruit, develop, and retain top talent across supply chain, operations, and shared services. Promote a performance-oriented, collaborative culture with a strong emphasis on innovation and continuous learning. Lead regular leadership and team meetings to ensure transparency, accountability, and alignment.
Qualifications
Experience: 10+ years in senior operations, supply chain, and finance leadership roles within pharmaceuticals, healthcare, or CPG sectors.
Finance Background: Deep understanding of financial reporting, cost controls, capital allocation, and P&L ownership.
ERP Expertise: Hands-on experience with SAP IBP or similar ERP systems, integrated with finance and operations.
Strategic Execution: Proven ability to execute enterprise initiatives, lead cross-functional teams, and scale business operations.
Education: MBA or equivalent advanced degree; preferred certifications in LEAN, Six Sigma, or ERP systems.
