Chief Inspector – Full-time Embedded Position

Apave Canada is seeking an experienced and motivated Chief Inspector to lead our inspection and integrity management programs. This role is responsible for providing technical guidance, oversight, and direction to inspection personnel while ensuring the effective implementation of the company's integrity assessment and quality assurance programs.

The Chief Inspector will play a key role in maintaining regulatory compliance, supporting operational reliability, and ensuring the safe operation of pressure equipment through effective inspection planning, reporting, and program management.

Job Duties and Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and provide technical directions to inspection staff and integrity personnel.
  • Manage, refine, and implement the company's quality and integrity management programs, ensuring compliance with applicable technical and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure pressure equipment data and records are accurate, complete, and current, including all relevant static and operational information.
  • Verify inspection, testing, and non-destructive examination (NDE/NDT) procedures meet regulatory and company requirements.
  • Review and approve inspection test plans and ensure they are updated based on inspection findings and equipment condition.
  • Conduct inspections of pressure equipment and prepare inspection reports when required.
  • Review and approve pressure equipment inspection reports and pressure safety valve (PSV) service reports.
  • Establish and assign inspection and service intervals in accordance with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams to develop equipment repair and maintenance plans.
  • Verify repairs and corrective actions are completed in accordance with approved plans, applicable codes, and company standards.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and continuous improvement within the inspection and integrity programs.
Required Skills and Experience:
  • TSASK Pressure Equipment Inspector (PEI) Class 2 certification required.
  • API 510 certification required.
  • Extensive experience in pressure equipment inspection, integrity management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements governing pressure equipment.
  • Proven experience leading, mentoring, and providing technical guidance to inspection personnel.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate inspection findings, review technical reports, develop integrity strategies, and make sound risk-based decisions.
  • Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with inspection management software, integrity databases, and related digital systems.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and Regulatory stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications & Certifications:
  • TSASK Pressure Equipment Inspector (PEI) Class 1 certification.
  • API 570 Inspector certification.
  • API 653 Inspector certification.
  • CGSB Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) certifications.
  • Experience working in oil and gas, petrochemical, midstream, manufacturing, or other industrial environments.
  • Knowledge and practical application of Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) methodologies.
  • Experience managing quality assurance programs and supporting regulatory audits and compliance reviews.
  • Strong understanding of pressure vessel, piping, storage tank, pressure relief device, and mechanical integrity programs.
Safety Requirements:
  • Steel-toe boots are required; Apave Canada will provide additional PPE.

Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Great Health benefits package will be provided after a 3-month probationary period.
