Aquent in partnership with a renowned game development studio is seeking an exceptional Character Rigger to join the team in Vancouver. You will contribute to cutting-edge character rigs, optimize skinning, and ensure high-quality movement across flagship titles.

Bring 3+ years of professional rigging experience, a strong foundation in anatomy, and proficiency with industry-standard 3D software. A BFA/AA or a compelling portfolio is preferred to demonstrate skill and artistry in game assets.

  • 3+ years of professional rigging experience in game development.
  • Bachelor degree (BFA/AA) preferred or a strong portfolio demonstrating rigging expertise.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard 3D software and ability to learn new tools quickly.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Rigging Lead to develop rigged assets that meet platform and engine guidelines for optimal performance.
  • Incorporate feedback from Rigging Lead and art leads to refine rigging solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve rigging issues and test assets on target platform for stability.

What You'll Do
  • Collaborate closely with the Rigging Lead to develop and implement rigged assets that adhere to the technical guidelines of the target platform and engine, ensuring seamless integration and optimal performance.
  • Actively seek and incorporate feedback from the Rigging Lead, peers, and art leads to continuously refine and improve rigging solutions.
  • Proactively troubleshoot and resolve issues with rigged assets, ensuring content integrity and conducting thorough testing on the target platform to guarantee stability and quality.
  • Participate effectively in team meetings, contributing to a collaborative environment and fostering clear communication across disciplines.
  • Consistently meet project deadlines and milestones, demonstrating reliability and commitment to project success.
  • Document new rigging tools, techniques, and workflows, contributing to knowledge sharing and the continuous improvement of departmental processes.
  • Serve as a positive and creative force within the team, inspiring innovation and contributing to a dynamic work culture.
What You'll Bring
  • 3+ years of professional experience as a Character Rigger or equivalent, with a proven track record in game development.
  • A Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) or Associate of Arts (AA) degree is preferred, or a compelling portfolio that demonstrates an industry-standard level of rigging expertise.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard 3D software, coupled with a high capacity to quickly learn and adapt to new tools and processes.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of human and animal anatomy, crucial for creating believable and functional character rigs.
  • Demonstrated expertise in clean and efficient smooth skinning practices, ensuring high-quality deformations.
  • A genuine passion for the game industry and a keen understanding of current industry trends and emerging technologies.
  • A proactive work ethic, characterized by strong problem-solving skills and an eagerness to tackle complex challenges.
  • The ability and willingness to quickly learn and integrate into existing in-studio workflows and proprietary tools.
What Will Set You Apart
  • Experience working with a leading game engine, demonstrating practical application of rigging within a real-time environment.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, MEL), used for automation and tool development.
  • Hands-on experience with 3D animation software, providing a deeper understanding of animators’ needs.
  • Knowledge of cloth simulation or other dynamic simulation techniques to enhance character realism.
