Job summary

WildBrain Studios is seeking a Senior Rigger (Feature) to build versatile rigging systems and animation interfaces for CG characters, props and vehicles. The role reports to the Producer and collaborates with the Rigging Supervisor in Vancouver, BC.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in rigging, strong Maya and Python scripting skills, and a passion for deformation techniques. Remote work is not indicated; local residency in British Columbia is expected.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of rigging experience, including 2+ years on feature animation
  • Strong understanding of deformation techniques and shape-driven rigs for face and body
  • Experience with Maya and scripting in Python; good 3D math knowledge
  • Ability to troubleshoot, maintain, and improve rigs under production constraints
  • Strong communication and collaboration across departments

Responsibilities

  • Rig CG assets (characters, props, sets) to achieve animation performance
  • Apply skinning and deformation techniques for efficient rigs
  • Troubleshoot and optimize rigs to ensure stability for the animation team
  • Collaborate with production, design, modelling and shading to meet requirements
  • Review scripts and animatics for rigging needs; manage rigging tasks
  • Contribute to in-house rigging tools and workflows with new tools and bug fixes

WildBrain Studios is looking for a Senior Rigger (Feature) to join our team!

Reporting to the Producer, this role you’ll work closely with the Rigging Supervisor to create versatile rigging systems and animation interfaces to be used for animation of CG characters, props and vehicles.

This role will be required to be located in BC.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

What You’ll Do:

  • Rig CG assets (characters, props, sets, etc.) to achieve the intended animation performance
  • Use skinning and other deformation techniques to achieve the intended rig performance in an efficient manner
  • Troubleshoot, maintain and improve rigs in production, while ensuring their stability for the animation team
  • Collaborate closely with production, design, modelling and shading to best achieve the intended animation performance requirements
  • Review scripts and animatics for rigging needs
  • Take responsibility for rigging task assignments
  • Communicate with the Rigging Supervisor on concerns ahead of time
  • Carry out duties in a professional and positive manner
  • Contribute to inhouse rigging toolsets and workflow by making new tools, reporting/fixing bugs, brain‑storming ideas

What You’ll Bring:

  • 5+ years of experience in rigging, with 2+ years in feature animation
  • Solid understanding and passion for rigging and deformation techniques, including a good understanding of a corrective shape‑driven workflow for face and body rigs
  • Demonstrated knowledge and technical skills related to rigging in Maya, including scripting in Python
  • Good understanding of 3D Math applicable to rigging needs
  • Strong problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, often with multiple tasks and under deadline pressure

Nice To Have:

  • Experience working with Object‑Oriented Programming concepts in Python
  • Knowledge in PySide in Maya
  • Maya API knowledge in Python
  • C++ knowledge is a plus

Pay Range:

$1,875 - $2,400 CAD per week based on a 40-hour work week.

Candidates are paid within the range posted, but their exact pay will vary based on the level, responsibilities and expectations of the role. We also take into consideration the experience and skills that individual brings, with consideration of our internal equity.
