Job Summary

We are seeking Character FX Artists with a strong creative drive to produce high-quality effects for animated features!

What You’ll Do
  • Create hair, cloth, and fur simulation setups.
  • Design procedural creature simulation rigs in Houdini following department standards and workflows.
  • Collaborate closely with other departments to create realistic and stylized character effects.
  • Be part of a dynamic team of passionate CFX artists dedicated to delivering high‑quality work.
  • Incorporate feedback from supervisors and directors to develop, refine and improve your work and the teams.
  • Take part in internal training to boost CFX skills.
  • Collaborate with grace, humility, inclusion, and open‑mindedness.
What You’ll Need
  • Experience with software such as Houdini, Maya or similar 3D animation and effects tools. Preferred Houdini Vellum experience.
  • Understanding of physics‑based simulations for hair, cloth, muscle, feathers and other character‑related effects.
  • Strong sense of timing, weight, and motion in creating realistic effects.
  • Ability to create both realistic and stylized effects as per project requirements.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members.
  • Ability to articulate ideas and technical information clearly.
  • Keen eye for detail to ensure high‑quality effects that enhance the storytelling.
  • Flexibility to adapt to different styles and techniques as required by various projects.
  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements in character effects technology.
  • Experience in a similar role within the film, gaming, or animation industry.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages like VEX or Python for tool development and automation is a bonus.
  • A portfolio showcasing a range of character effects work.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and e‑social communication skills.

This role is based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Hybrid Role (Minimum of 3 days a week in the office).

We rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, location, skills, and experience. The overall market range for this role is typically $80k‑160k CAD. This reflects total compensation; we do not have stock options.
