Role overview

Reporting to the VP, Category Management, and dotted line to the VP, SDM Digital, the Category Director, eCommerce will lead our Online Exclusive business within SDM's rapidly growing eCommerce platform. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the digital customer experience and drive significant growth.

The successful candidate will understand our online customers, curate an exciting eCommerce assortment, and develop data-driven strategies to expand categories, optimize performance, identify trends, and leverage digital merchandising and marketing to increase sales and profitability.

Responsibilities:
  1. Develop and execute category plans for the Online Exclusive strategy, aligned with SDM and Loblaw Digital targets.
  2. Create strategies to attract and motivate purchases, maximize profitability, grow market share, and increase customer loyalty.
  3. Analyze market data, customer insights, and competitors to craft promotional opportunities, including first-to-market initiatives and exclusives.
  4. Negotiate with vendors for optimal product selection, pricing, and promotions.
  5. Secure funding for marketing initiatives and other programs.
  6. Present plans and results to senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
  7. Collaborate with teams such as Category, Digital Merchandising, Marketing, and Supply Chain for seamless execution.
  8. Monitor and analyze performance, implement improvements.
  9. Stay ahead of trends and digital innovations in eCommerce.
  10. Lead and mentor a team to foster high performance and growth.
Qualifications:
  • Deep understanding of retail market and experience in building new businesses.
  • Strong analytical skills for translating data into insights.
  • Exceptional negotiation skills and vendor relationship management.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Proven influence and relationship-building in complex environments.
  • Proactive, entrepreneurial, results-oriented, with ownership mentality.
  • Leadership skills with a passion for team development.
  • Ability to work with ambiguity, prioritize, and solve problems independently.
  • 7-10 years in retail, merchandising, or marketing, with eCommerce experience.
