Job summary

Kelowna General Hospital, part of Interior Health Authority, is seeking a casual Switchboard Operator Clerk to join our frontline team in Kelowna, BC. You will be the first point of contact for patients, visitors and staff, ensuring seamless communication across the facility with rotating day/evening shifts.

Duties include handling calls, relaying information, maintaining paging and on-call lines, and coordinating with patient transport and morgue data as needed.

Qualifications

• Completion of Grade 12.
• Typing test (45+ NWPM) from a recognized institution within the past 48 months.
• Two years recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Cover Letter stating availability to start in a new position and on-call, casual work.

Responsibilities

• Process internal and external calls and establish links.
• Provide information to customers and relay messages to appropriate source.
• Answer emergency calls and follow established procedures.
• Maintain Physician paging system and after-hours emergency lines.
• Record and organize data for morgue operations and coordinate transfers as required.
• Receive and relay On-Call information from physicians and update relevant staff.
• Coordinate patient porter requests and transfers.
• Maintain confidentiality of information.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
