Job summary

University of Victoria is seeking staff to support dining services on campus, performing food preparation, service, and sanitation tasks. The role involves washing and portioning ingredients, serving customers, setting and clearing tables, and transporting supplies around kitchens and dining areas.

Successful candidates will work in a team, manage multiple tasks, and follow established food safety and sanitation procedures while learning routines related to food service.

Responsibilities

• Washes, cleans, and prepares vegetables and fruit for cooking and salad use.
• Mixes juices as assigned.
• Portions desserts and prepares sandwich fillings as directed.
• Sets and clears dining room tables, arranging them to meet user requirements.
• Transports food, supplies, and equipment to and from the kitchen, dining areas, storerooms, and refrigerators.
• Readies and refills drink dispensers and stocks condiments and food in serving areas.
• Operates standard kitchen appliances and equipment.
• Dispenses food and beverages to customers.
• Waits on tables when required.
• Cleans work areas, equipment, and fixtures.
• Prepares soiled dishes and cutlery for the dishwashing machine.
• Stacks and sorts clean dishes and cutlery.
• Performs laundry duties and other related work as required.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to working effectively within a team environment.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize responsibilities, and maintain a well-organized work area.
• Knowledge of food safety standards, effective sanitation and housekeeping practices, and the operation of standard kitchen appliances and equipment.
• Ability to learn routines related to food service, including assisting in food preparation and cleanup.
• Serving It Right Certification by the British Columbia Liquor Control Board may be required, depending on the work assignment.
