Job summary

Union Gospel Mission in Vancouver seeks a Community Support Worker for a casual, part-time role supporting Front Desk and Outreach teams in the Downtown Eastside. You will help connect individuals to housing, recovery programs, shelters, clothing, and other resources, while maintaining a welcoming environment and accurate records.

The position requires building respectful relationships, coordinating with internal and external providers, and adhering to UGM policies.

Qualifications

• 12 months of related work or volunteer experience preferred.
• Good interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team.
• Basic English skills (verbal, reading and writing).
• Basic computer skills (Excel, Word and Outlook).
• Complete UGM Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Course.

Responsibilities

• Model Christ in word and deed.
• Provide support to community members who visit the Centre, including material and relational supports, and referrals to external services.
• Liaise with other service agencies in the area.
• Build strong relationships with community members and encourage exploration of Christianity where appropriate.
• Maintain accurate records for future reference.
• Maintain the Centre and office space in a clean and presentable condition.
• Plan projects and activities under supervision; participate in meetings and training.
• Monitor age, sobriety, and gender where appropriate; maintain daily security of the facility.
• Adhere to all UGM policies, practices and safety procedures.
