Job summary

Union Gospel Mission in Vancouver is seeking a casual Shelter Worker to support men arriving at the UGM Shelter, ensuring a safe, clean first step, and linking guests with housing, clothing, and recovery resources. The role is based at the Hastings Facility with occasional outreach.

Duties include maintaining the center, taking referrals, and assisting with records, training staff, and providing compassionate guidance.

Qualifications

• Basic English skills (verbal, reading, writing).
• Proficient with Excel, Word, Outlook.
• Ability to work independently.
• Experience in shelter or community services preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide intake and support to shelter guests.
• Refer guests to housing, clothing, and shelter services.
• Maintain a safe, clean shelter environment and records.
• Lead devotions and coordinate with case managers as needed.
• Oversee overnight shifts and respond to crises.
