Job summary

Independent Grocers Alliance in Canada is seeking a friendly cashier to join our store team. This role offers flexible part-time hours (15–40 per week) with day and evening shifts, and opportunities to develop customer service and retail skills in a busy grocery environment.

You will scan merchandise, verify prices, handle cash and electronic payments, and maintain accurate cash balances while delivering excellent service. We value reliability, teamwork and a proactive approach to daily tasks.

Qualifications

• Experience operating a cash register or POS system.
• Ability to handle cash and card payments accurately.
• Attention to price accuracy and customer service.

Responsibilities

• Punch and/or scan merchandise as selected by the customer.
• Ensure accurate prices and process cancellations as needed.
• Handle cash, debit, cheques and deposits per policy.
• Balance cash drawer and meet productivity standards.

What might a typical day look like?

As a cashier, you will :

• punch and/or scan merchandise selected by the customer;
• ensure accuracy of prices punched/scanned and make cancellations according to established standards;
• handle cash and media (debit cards, cheques, etc.) and make deposits according to established policies;
• ensure the balance of the cash register and respect the productivity standards (sales/hours, punching/minute)
