Job summary

The John Howard Society of Saskatchewan is seeking a Caseworker for a term, full-time role in the Extrajudicial Sanctions and Alternative Measures program to support mediation, diversion, and restorative justice initiatives.

Under supervision, you will work with the Crown Prosecutors’ office, police, and community partners to coordinate mediation files, educate communities, and ensure confidential, empathetic support for clients navigating the criminal justice process.

Qualifications

• Secondary education or a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
• Minimum 1 year of practical experience with socio-economic issues.
• Experience with homelessness, trauma, addiction, mental health, poverty, and child welfare.

Responsibilities

About the role

Under the supervision of the Program Manager, or designate, the Caseworkershall provide mediation and diversion services, crime prevention, and Restorative Justice community-education.

What you'll do

Caseworker duties include the following responsibilities:

• Provide services to clients using various restorative justice practices, including Victim-Offender Mediation, Talking and Healing Circles, Community Justice Forums, Family Group Conferencing and Accountability Hearings.
• Work closely with the Crown Prosecutors’ office and Police service to receive mediation files.
• Determine if clients are assuming responsibility for the criminal offence and are aware of their rights.
• Build/Maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders and other community agencies.
• Deliver presentations and participate in community events to promote the programs.
• Facilitate mediations between victims and offenders, while providing support for clients throughout the entire mediation process
• Complete reporting and documentation as required by program and funder
• Connect clients with support services as needed.
• Maintain client and file confidentiality.
• Perform other related duties as needed.

Other Requirements

• This role involves a combination of sitting, standing, walking, and occasional driving throughout the workday. Candidates must be able to move safely between work areas and perform routine office tasks efficiently.
• The position also requires the ability to regularly push and pull filing drawers and retrieve, organize, and store paper files and documents. Successful candidates will possess the physical mobility and stamina to safely perform these duties while maintaining an organized and productive work environment.

Qualifications

Education:

• Secondary education from Saskatchewan Polytechnic or Community Colleges or University Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and/or minimum 1 year of practical experience working with individuals impacted by socio-economic issues including homelessness, trauma, addiction, mental health, poverty, and the child welfare

Practical Experience:

• Working knowledge and experience with individuals impacted by socio-economic issues, including: homelessness, trauma, addiction, mental health, poverty, and the child welfare system.
• Working with a range of diverse clients, indiscriminate of: age, gender, sexual orientation, abilities, socio-economic status, religious preference, etc.

Other:

• First Aid/CPR, ASIST, Non-violent Crisis Intervention, Food Safe would be considered an asset.
• Valid / Insurable Saskatchewan Driver’s License, insurable to drive clients in JHSS-owned vehicles.
• Cleared Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check, completed three (3) months prior to start date.

Capability:

• Computer skills with emphasis on Microsoft 365 (SharePoint, Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
