The Salvation Army New Directions Community Residential Facility in Kitchener, ON is seeking a Caseworker to support adult male offenders conditionally released to the community. The Caseworker will manage front desk duties, assist the Correctional Worker, and support clients with counseling and referrals to ensure compliance with release conditions.

Responsibilities include recording activities, supervising daily operations, and maintaining emergency plans.

Qualifications

  • One year college or university in Correctional Services or Social Services (Education)
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in community correctional setting preferred (Experience)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Self motivated and disciplined
  • Experience/Working knowledge in word processing; spread sheet use
  • Provide an original copy of a Criminal Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army

Responsibilities

  • To be responsible for the operation of the Front Desk and provide support to the Correctional Worker.

  • Perform other position related duties as required.

Job Description

Position Purpose summary New Directions Community Residential Facility, (CRF) provides residential support to adult male offenders who are conditionally released to the community. The Caseworker supports the mission of The Salvation Army through positive interactions with clients by fulfilling main reception duties.

This Position Description indicates the general nature and level of work expected of the incumbent. It is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities of the incumbent.

This Position Description will be reviewed by the employee and supervisor on a regular basis. Amendments can be made at any time at the discretion of the employer.

Service Responsibilities

  2. Maintain information in confidence as required
  3. Participate as an active and responsible team member in all work groups through which position responsibilities are achieved
  4. Represent the organization in a professional and engaging manner and assist personnel whom the position supports in developing those skills as required
  5. Participate in the probationary and annual performance appraisal process.
  6. Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  7. Participate in ongoing professional development and training.

  • Provide an original copy of a Criminal Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment. Clearance through Corrections Canada, Enhanced Reliability screening is required Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry. Nonviolent-Crisis Intervention an asset Support for and commitment to the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.

Conditions of Employment

Schedule may vary according to requirements of responsibilities - some weekend and evening work may be required. This is a full-time position based on 37.50 hours per week. ½ hour unpaid meal break. Compensation

The target hiring range for this position is $24.74 to $24.99 with a maximum of $25.24. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
