The Salvation Army seeks a Residential Worker B to maintain a safe, secure environment for residents in shelter and treatment facilities in Canada. You will monitor client activities, log events, and coordinate care while liaising with external agencies as needed.
The role involves admissions, policy enforcement, occasional meals, and reception duties, with duties aligned to security and client welfare. A high school diploma and Addictions counselling courses are required.

The Residential Worker B provides a safe and secure environment for residents and visitors.
The incumbent is responsible for the following range of job duties characteristic, or typical of the job class:
The successful job applicant will have completed high school, plus specialized courses of up to six (6) months (Addictions Facilities). NOTE: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable.
The successful applicant will hold/have: Addiction Facility – Addictions Counselling Courses **See Precautionary Measures**
The incumbent must have the following experience before hire: More than three months but less than one year of prior related experience, including, experience with frontline work in a social services setting.
The performance of the job requires moderate amounts of keyboarding, and performing walk abouts.
The performance of the job requires continuously monitoring the environment, monitoring security cameras and attentiveness when interacting with clients and recording information.
The incumbent’s responsibility for Financial Resources: The incumbent is involved in minor financial matters regularly, or on a relief basis, or has responsibility for the wise use of his/her own resources. He/She may be authorized to spend, disburse, or collect small amounts of cash. The incumbent has very little input into the annual budget.
The incumbent’s responsibility for Human Resources: The incumbent is responsible for his/her own time and effort only. He/She may demonstrate work methods to new employees, volunteers and/or students.
The incumbent’s work environment is typically in a shelter and/or in treatment facilities. The incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions: Dealing with angry people Abusive people Verbal abuse Isolation Work schedule affecting lifestyle The incumbent my have little to no travel required. The incumbent carries a pager/walkie talkie and will work shift.
The job incumbent may be exposed to the risk of minor to moderate injury or illnesses due to: Physical attacks by others Exposure to infectious diseases Exposure to bodily fluids Sharp objects Other dangerous situations
The incumbent must take the following precautionary measures (in addition to health and safety rules): Universal precautions Immunization for Hepatitis B Vaccination against Tuberculosis Current Certification in First Aid/CPR Criminal Police Investigation Check (CPIC) Non-violent crisis intervention training Medication Training Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.
The pay rate is based on the Collective Agreement, not any other factors.
Compensation: The target hiring range for this position is $22.98 to $23.10 with a maximum of $23.21. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
