Job summary

Ashton Construction Services Inc. is seeking a carpenter to join our Bow Valley operations. You will report to the Construction Manager and perform site works, framing, and finish carpentry for commercial projects in Canmore.

Qualifications

  • Experience in commercial and/or multifamily construction preferred.
  • 2nd–4th year carpentry apprentices or journeymen preferred.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification and ability to obtain within probation.
  • Must have Class 5 driver’s license with a clean record.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work at heights.

Responsibilities

  • Perform site works and framing for walls, floors, roofs and other structural components.
  • Read blueprints and project plans to determine materials and requirements.
  • Accurately measure, cut and shape materials to specs.
  • Build and install temporary structures like scaffolding and formwork.
  • Coordinate with electricians, plumbers and laborers to meet timelines.
  • Ensure carpentry work meets codes and project specs; inspect quality.
  • Organize labourers and assist with site cleanup and safety compliance.

CarpenterThe Carpenter reports to the Construction Manager and is responsible for performing site works as assigned by the Site Superintendent or Foreman.Duties and ResponsibilitiesAssist in site preparation, ensuring the area is clean and safe at all times.Follow safety protocols and maintain a safe working environment. Ensure all tools and equipment are in good working condition and used according to safety standards.Construct, install, and repair framing for walls, floors, roofs, and other structural components of commercial buildings using wood, metal, or other materials.Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and project plans to determine materials, dimensions, and work requirements. Accurately measure, cut, and shape materials according to project specifications.Build and install temporary structures such as scaffolding & basic formwork as per project requirements.Order, transport, and handle materials necessary for the completion of carpentry work. Ensure proper storage and organization of materials to avoid damage or delays.Perform repairs, modifications, or renovations as needed, addressing issues such as structural damage, fixture problems, or wear and tear on materials.Work closely with other trades, including electricians, plumbers, and laborers, to coordinate tasks and meet project timelines.Communicate effectively with the Site Superintendent or Foreperson to report progress and any challenges encountered.Ensure that all carpentry work meets the required quality standards, building codes, and project specifications. Perform regular inspections to maintain high-quality craftsmanship.Organize skilled and unskilled labourers to assist with site work as required.Other general contractor duties including rough-carpentry, heating and hoarding, back-framing, installing doors, frames and door hardware, installation of washroom accessories, finish carpentry, deficiency work, general site cleaning, etc.Qualifications & ExperienceSelf-starter, highly motivated, and able to work unsupervised in a safe and quality focused manner.Experience in commercial and/or multifamily construction preferred.Preference given to 2nd – 4th year apprentices, journeymen, or those with comparable certifications.Works well in both team environments and independently.Strong problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to changing project needs.Valid First Aid and CPR certification is required. Successful applicants are expected to obtain within probationary period. Preference given to Standard First Aid & CPR Certification holders.Experience in completing quantity take-offs and ordering material is an asset.Skid Steer, Fall Protection, and other relevant safety tickets an asset.RequirementsMust be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs, and work in positions requiring standing, crouching, kneeling, walking, and working at heights for extended periods.Comfortable working in outdoor environments, including during colder months.Must have and maintain a valid Class 5 license, with a clean driving record.Eligible to legally work in Canada without employer sponsorship.Must have reliable transportation to and from worksites (or agreed upon carpool pick up locations).Compensation and Benefits:Remuneration based on experience, starting between $28-38 per hour.General Holiday Pay and Vacation Pay as percentage of pay remitted per pay cheque as per industry standard.Extensive group benefits package including extended health care, dental, life insurance, disability coverage, health spending account, and RRSP matching.Cell phone allowance and access to company fleet as required.Progressive working environment at the forefront of construction industry in Bow Valley.Industry training allowance for career development.Strong commitment to safety in the workplace.
