Job summary

The Nova Scotia Health Authority is hiring a Casual Care Team Assistant at Aberdeen Hospital. Reporting to the Health Services Manager, you will provide direct hands-on care and support patients with activities of daily living in a collaborative care team.

You will reinforce patient and family teaching per the plan of care, with opportunities to grow skills in a supportive environment across shifts including days, evenings, and nights. Provincial certification and BLS are required or eligible.

Qualifications

• Completed Continuing Care Assistant Program.
• Provincial certification with the CCA Registry and active registration.
• Current Basic Life Support Certification.
• Effective verbal and written communication.
• French language skills are an asset.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct, hands-on care based on patient needs.

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Health Services Manager and working under the supervision or direction of regulated health professionals, the Care Team Assistant provides direct, hands‑on care based on the needs of the patient and program/unit. As a member of the collaborative care team, the Care Team Assistant is responsible for supporting patients' activities of daily living and instrumental activities of daily living. The Care Team Assistant also reinforces patient and family teaching according to established guidelines and the plan of care.

• Continuing Care Assistant Program
• Provincial Certification with Department of Health and Wellness

• Current Basic Life Support Certification
• Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing
• Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Where there are no applicants with provincial certification the employer may consider candidates who are eligible to write the CCA knowledge exam and obtain certification within 1 year from their date of hire.
