Nova Scotia Health Authority invites applications for a Physician Assistant in the Ambulatory Orthopedic Clinic at the Halifax Infirmary. The PA will assist physicians, perform assessments, and contribute to care coordination in a fast-paced orthopedic setting.

This position requires a recognized PA program with relevant certifications, strong communication skills, and willingness to travel between sites as needed. Long assignment, 75 hours biweekly, days/evenings may be required.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of or currently enrolled in an accredited Physician Assistant program in Canada, UK or USA.
  • Certification through recognized PA bodies (CCPA, RC, or PA-C).
  • Membership with the Canadian Association of Physician Assistants.

Responsibilities

  • Provide preventative and ongoing medical and clinical care under physician supervision.
  • Complete assessments and interventions to extend physician services within the care spectrum.

About the Opportunity

Nova Scotia Health is currently accepting applications for Physician Assistant in the Ambulatory Orthopedic Clinic at the Halifax Infirmary. This position assists in transforming healthcare delivery and patient care throughout our province. Join a team of individuals working to help patients, families and caregivers with the right care at the right time in the right place.

Reporting to the Health Services Manager, the Physician Assistant (PA) will work under the direction and supervision of the Physician to provide preventative and/or ongoing medical and clinical care management to patients. The PA role contributes to extending the services provided by the physician, through completing assessments and interventions along the spectrum of care provided to patients within their division/department under their supervisory agreement.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Graduate of or currently enrolled in an accredited recognized Physician Assistant program in Canada, United Kingdom, or United States
  • Certification through the Physician Assistant's Certification Council (CCPA), Royal College of Physicians, or National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (PA-C)
  • Membership with the Canadian Association of Physician Assistants
  • Medical Liability Insurance required
  • Certifications or willingness to obtain, when needed: Basic Life Supports, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Pediatric Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life Support
  • Currency in medical readings and evidence-based guidelines
  • Demonstrated effective communication, interpersonal, organizational, patient assessment and telecommunications skills
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours
  • Long assignment full-time position; 75 hours biweekly
  • Approximately 18 months
  • Shifts may include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
Compensation and Benefits

$55.62 - $63.29 hourly

Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
