Job summary

The Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a Care Team Assistant to support patients with daily living activities and participate in collaborative care planning. You will provide hands-on care and reinforce teaching to patients and families under supervision of health professionals.

A provincial certification with the CCA Registry is required, with BLS certification and effective communication skills. The role includes a long assignment full-time schedule and offers a comprehensive benefits

Qualifications

  • Requires completion of a Continuing Care Assistant Program.
  • Provincial Certification with Department of Health and Wellness; must be registered and active with the CCA Registry.
  • Current Basic Life Support Certification is required.
  • Effective written and verbal communication; French language skills are an asset.
  • If no provincial certification, eligible to write the CCA knowledge exam and obtain certification within 1 year of hire.

  • Provide direct, hands-on care for patients and assist with activities of daily living.
  • Reinforce patient and family teaching according to guidelines and plan of care.
  • Collaborate with the care team to support patient needs and safety.

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Health Services Manager and working under the supervision or direction of regulated health professionals, the Care Team Assistant provides direct, hands‑on care based on the needs of the patient and program/unit. As a member of the collaborative care team, the Care Team Assistant is responsible for supporting patients' activities of daily living and instrumental activities of daily living. The Care Team Assistant also reinforces patient and family teaching according to established guidelines and the plan of care.

  • Continuing Care Assistant Program
  • Provincial Certification with Department of Health and Wellness

  • Current Basic Life Support Certification
  • Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Where there are no applicants with provincial certification the employer may consider candidates who are eligible to write the CCA knowledge exam and obtain certification within 1 year from their date of hire.

Hours
  • Long assignment full‑time; 75 hours bi‑weekly
  • Approximately 12 months
Compensation and Benefits

$24.91 - $28.37 hourly
