Job summary

YMCA Calgary is seeking a Camp Chief Hector Kitchen Assistant and Cook (Part Time, Contract) in Exshaw, Alberta. The role runs 40 hours per week with a start on September 2, 2026 and end December 4, 2026, offering $15.00–$18.66 per hour plus affordable room and board.

Ideal candidates will have banquet/large-volume kitchen experience, a background with children and youth, strong communication, and a positive teamwork mindset.

Qualifications

  • Experience in banquet and large-volume kitchens or line cooking.
  • Experience working with children and youth.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Positive attitude and teamwork experience.
  • Love for the outdoors and the Rocky Mountains.
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C within the last 12 months from an approved AB OHS provider.
  • Food Safe Certification or willingness to obtain.
  • Clear Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • Three professional references.

Responsibilities

  • Help with preparing nutritious and delicious food, including for people with dietary restrictions.
  • Ensure timely preparation of meals and adequate storage of all food and supplies.
  • Support a positive kitchen culture and respectful workplace.
  • Support Camp Chief Hector YMCA risk management rules and guidelines.
  • Work as an active and positive member of the Camp Chief Hector YMCA staff team.
  • Cater to a high-end demographic with events such as weddings, conferences and retreats.
  • Ensure the kitchen is held to a high standard of sanitation and cleanliness.
  • Assist in the production of baked goods.
  • Ensure food waste is kept to a minimum.
  • Model and support the values of Camp Chief Hector YMCA and YMCA Calgary.

What qualifications are we looking for?

  • Previous experience in banquet and large volume kitchens or line cooking;
  • Experience working with children and youth
  • Strong communication skills

  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C certificated within the last 12 months from an approved AB OHS provider. Asset if certification is issued by one of the following five Canadian organizations: Canadian Red Cross, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Lifesaving Society, St John's Ambulance and/or Canadian Ski Patrol.
  • Food Safe Certification (or willing to obtain with us)
  • Clear Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search;
  • Three professional references
