Job summary

YMCA Calgary is seeking an Assistant Chef (Full Time) at Camp Chief Hector YMCA in Exshaw, Alberta. The role starts immediately with affordable on-site accommodation available and a salary of about $42,325–$47,028 per year.

You will lead banquet-style and large-volume kitchen operations, supervise a team, and coordinate with program and admin staff to deliver high-quality meals while managing dietary needs and minimizing waste.

Qualifications

• Experience leading banquet and large volume kitchens or line cooking.
• Experience leading a team.
• Strong communication skills.
• A love for the outdoors and living in the Rocky Mountains.
• Current First Aid with CPR-C within the last 12 months from an approved AB OHS provider.

• Planning meals that are appealing to participants and minimize waste.
• Ordering food and supplies.
• Liaison with parents and group leaders around dietary restrictions.
• Supervision, coaching and supporting 2-15 staff, depending on season and volume.

What qualifications are we looking for?

Qualifications include:

• Previous experience in leading banquet and large volume kitchens or line cooking
• Experience leading a team
• Strong communication skills
• A positive attitude and positive teamwork experience
• A love for the outdoors and living in the Rocky Mountains
• Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C certificated within the last 12 months from an approved AB OHS provider. Asset if certification is issued by one of the following five Canadian organizations: Canadian Red Cross, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Lifesaving Society, St John's Ambulance and/or Canadian Ski Patrol
• Food Safe Certification (or willing to obtain)
• Alberta Class 5 drivers license (or Canadian equivalent) and no more than 3 demerits
• Clear Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search

• Supervision, coaching and supporting 2-15 staff, depending on the season and operational volume
