Job summary

Excel Society in Calgary is seeking a Direct Support Professional to assist individuals with disabilities in a person-centered environment. You will support daily activities, document care, and help clients reach their goals.

You will work as part of a caring team, follow established policies, handle routine tasks, and participate in ongoing training to grow your career in a community-focused organization.

Qualifications

• Must be caring and dependable with a person-centered approach.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to follow established policies and care plans.
• Basic computer skills are required.
• Experience in disability services preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support clients toward their Individual Support Plan and outcomes.
• Administer medications using Catalyst system and verify on shift.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment.
• Welcome guardians and communicate with them as directed by the site supervisor.
• Assist with hygiene, dressing, making beds, toileting, etc.
• Monitor and support clients throughout the shift.
• Complete and maintain required documentation.
• Plan, prepare, and document meals and snacks for clients.
• Perform daily/weekly household tasks to ensure safety and comfort.

What You’ll Do:

• Daily supporting clients to work towards their Individual Support Plan - client goals and identified measurable outcomes.
• Using Catalyst system while administering medications to clients on time and checking/receiving medication that arrive while on shift.
• Maintaining a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for clients.
• Making Guardians feel welcome into the client’s residences and communicating/interacting with guardians of clients as directed by the site supervisor.
• Supporting client’s care needs such as: hygiene, dressing, making beds, toileting, etc.
• Assisting and monitoring clients through the entire shift.
• Completing, reading, and maintaining all required documentation.
• Planning for, preparing, and documenting meals and snacks for clients.
• Performing daily and weekly household duties such as: dusting, washing walls, vacuuming, cleaning, laundry, washing windows, shovelling snow, cleaning bathrooms, washing dishes, etc. ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for clients.
