BGO in Calgary, Alberta, seeks an Associate, Commercial Mortgages to support origination, underwriting, and credit activities for the Canadian mortgage portfolio. Based in Calgary, the role requires in-office presence four days a week and involves handling loan recommendations, closings, and amendments with a focus on regional growth.

Ideal candidates have 3+ years in commercial mortgage underwriting, strong credit judgment, and proven business development skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of experience in commercial mortgage underwriting or lending, preferably within Alberta.
• Strong credit judgment and risk assessment capabilities with experience in complex transactions.
• Ability to structure transactions that balance risk, profitability, and competitiveness.
• Understanding of commercial real estate lending structures, legal documentation, and Alberta-specific considerations.
• Strong business development and relationship management skills within a competitive market.
• Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders.
• High initiative, accountability, and ability to work autonomously.

Responsibilities

• Review and analyze mortgage loan opportunities and make recommendations to senior leaders.
• Manage closing of loan transactions by coordinating with branch staff, counsel and clients/brokers.
• Support ongoing portfolio management, including monitoring performance and recommending amendments.
• Establish and maintain relationships with clients, real estate and mortgage brokerage firms for prospective opportunities.
• Keep current with market trends and activities.
• Collaborate with national teams to support broader portfolio and investment objectives.
