Job summary

Qualifications

  • Post secondary education in Business or a related field.
  • 2+ years purchasing experience in mining or heavy industry.
  • Strong negotiation and supplier management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Procure goods, equipment, consumables, and services per policies and project needs.
  • Negotiate supplier quotations to achieve best value in cost, quality, service, and delivery.
  • Build and maintain supplier relationships; monitor performance and resolve issues.
  • Create and manage purchase orders in the ERP system with accurate coding.
  • Coordinate with suppliers to confirm orders and manage lead times.
  • Collaborate with operations and logistics to ensure material availability.
  • Manage inventory to maintain stock levels and minimize stockouts.
  • Ensure timely replenishment of critical materials and parts.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and data integrity.
  • Coordinate cycle counts and physical inventories.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize inventory management and warehouse efficiency.
  • Oversee shipping/receiving to maintain efficient material flow.
  • Promote organized, safe warehouse practices.
  • Act as liaison between procurement, warehouse, suppliers, and end users.
  • Maintain procurement and inventory records including contracts and approvals.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, ethics, regulations and audits.
  • Support audits and continuous improvement in procurement and inventory.

Job description

The Buyer is responsible for the timely and cost-effective procurement of materials, equipment, and services to support Magna Mining’s Sudbury operations.

Responsibilities
  • Procure goods, equipment, consumables, and services in accordance with company policies, operational requirements, and project needs.
  • Obtain, evaluate, and negotiate supplier quotations to achieve best value in cost, quality, service, and delivery.
  • Develop and maintain effective supplier relationships, monitor supplier performance, and resolve delivery, quality, or service issues.
  • Create, issue, track, and maintain purchase orders within the ERP system, ensuring accurate coding and documentation.
  • Coordinate with suppliers to confirm orders, manage lead times, expedite critical materials, and ensure timely delivery of goods and services.
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, warehouse, and logistics teams to support material availability and operational continuity.
  • Manage inventory levels to maintain established minimum and maximum stock requirements while preventing stockouts and minimizing excess inventory.
  • Ensure timely replenishment of critical materials, consumables, and spare parts to support production and maintenance requirements.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records, stock accuracy, and data integrity within company systems.
  • Coordinate and oversee inventory cycle counts and physical inventory activities.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to optimize inventory management, warehouse efficiency, and material availability.
  • Provide day-to-day direction and support to shipping and receiving activities to ensure efficient material flow and alignment with operational priorities.
  • Promote warehouse organization, housekeeping standards, and safe material handling practices.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between procurement, warehouse operations, suppliers, and end users regarding procurement and inventory matters.
  • Maintain accurate procurement and inventory records, including contracts, purchase orders, approvals, and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure procurement and inventory practices comply with company policies, ethical standards, regulatory requirements, and audit expectations.
  • Support internal audits, reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives related to procurement, inventory, and warehouse operations.

Qualifications

Formal Education, Certifications or Equivalents

  • Post secondary education in Business or a related field.
Work Experience

Nature & Length

  • 2 or more year of purchasing experience in mining or other heavy industry.
Key Competencies: Behaviours & Skills
  • Established understanding of procurement processes and supplier negotiation.
  • Proficient in ERP systems, contract management systems and Microsoft Excel.
  • Solid understanding of inventory, logistics, and warehousing principles.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Negotiation and supplier management skills.
  • Good communication and teamwork across departments.
  • Ability to prioritize and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commercial awareness and understanding of total cost of ownership.
  • Understanding of technical specifications, drawings, and scopes of work.
  • Familiarity with import/export processes and freight coordination.
