Job summary

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent.
  • Post secondary education in a related field is asset.
  • Train the Trainer or equivalent adult education certification is required.
  • 5+ years underground mining experience.
  • Experience delivering practical and classroom training.
  • Experience assessing employee competency.
  • Experience with LMS and training documentation.
  • Coaching or mentoring experience is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of adult learning principles.
  • Excellent coaching and facilitation skills.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Clear communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong report writing and documentation skills.
  • Ability to build relationships across levels.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and deliver classroom, practical, and field-based training for operations and maintenance personnel.
  • Develop and maintain training schedules to support operational requirements.
  • Ensure refresher and recertification training is completed on time.
  • Coordinate external training providers when required.
  • Conduct competency assessments for employees.
  • Verify knowledge and skills before declaring competency.
  • Maintain competency records and matrices.
  • Support Peer Trainers with development and consistency.
  • Observe and coach field training sessions.
  • Recommend improvements to training materials and methods.

Job Description

The Coordinator, Training is responsible for coordinating, delivering, and monitoring operational training programs for operations and maintenance personnel. The role ensures employees receive the knowledge, practical skills, and competency assessments required to perform their work safely and effectively. Working closely with supervisors, department leaders, and peer trainers, the Training Coordinator identifies skill gaps, coordinates training plans, validates competency, and supports the continuous improvement of workforce capability.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and deliver classroom, practical, and field-based training for operations and maintenance personnel.
  • Develop and maintain training schedules to support operational requirements.
  • Ensure required refresher and recertification training is completed within required timelines.
  • Coordinate external training providers where required .
  • Conduct practical and theoretical competency assessments for employees .
  • Verify employees have demonstrated the knowledge and skills required before being deemed competent.
  • Assess employee capability following training, equipment changes, procedural updates, or extended absences.
  • Provide coaching and development recommendations to employees requiring additional support.
  • Maintain accurate competency records and qualification matrices.
  • Support, mentor, and audit Peer Trainers to ensure consistency and quality of training delivery.
  • Observe field training sessions and provide constructive coaching and feedback.
  • Recommend improvements to training materials and delivery methods.
  • Work with supervisors and department leadership to identify operational training needs and competency gaps.
  • Develop and contribute to individual and departmental training plans.
  • Support succession planning and employee development initiatives.
  • Participate in the development, review, and revision of training materials, lesson plans, assessments, and practical evaluations.
  • Incorporate lessons learned from incidents, audits, and operational changes into training programs.
  • Maintain accurate training records within the Learning Management System (LMS) and other training databases.
  • Ensure all mandatory regulatory and company-required training is tracked and completed.
  • Prepare reports on training completion, competency status, overdue training, and workforce capability.
  • Support internal and external audits related to training and competency management.
Requirements

Qualifications: Formal Education, Certifications or Equivalents

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent.
  • Post secondary education in a related field is considered an asset.
  • Train the Trainer or equivalent adult education certification is required.
  • 5 or more years of underground mining experience.
  • Experience delivering practical and classroom training.
  • Experience assessing employee competency.
