Job Description

Under the direction of the Economic Development Officer, the Business Development Specialist is responsible for coordinating and implementing initiatives that advance the Town’s economic development mandate. This includes managing business retention and expansion programs, fostering inter-municipality and jurisdiction partnerships, and supporting entrepreneurship, in alignment with Council’s Strategic Priorities, the Economic Development Strategy, and the Community Brand Strategy.

Job Requirements

• Completion of a post-secondary degree in business, marketing, economics, or related field, or equivalent experience in municipal economic development.
• Membership (in good standing) with the Economic Development Association of Canada; working towards or obtaining the Ec.D. designation.
• Strong project management, organizational, research, and analytical skills.
• Knowledge of municipal affairs, business principles, real estate, and socio-economic characteristics of Newmarket.
• Ability to interact effectively with business leaders and support economic development programs.
• Knowledge of export development, inter-provincial trade, and federal trade programs.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and CRM applications.
• Effective communication, interpersonal, negotiation, and leadership skills.
• Ability to work independently and attend meetings outside normal hours.
• Valid Class “G” Driver’s License with reliable vehicle.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation such as AODA, MFIPPA, and OHSA.
