Job description

Business Development Representative – Western Canada

Mac Skylights is THE skylight expert in Western Canada. We manufacture and install everything in skylights ranging from small residential dome skylights to huge aluminum framed glass skylight assemblies for commercial projects, and everything in between.

Our Plastics division crafts innovative plastic solutions to clients’ needs. We handcraft replacement windshields for boats, Sea-dos, golf carts, and ATVs; work with beekeepers to make custom hive roofs that funnel away condensation, so it does not drip on bees; produce custom furniture; and make everything from custom display cases to signs.

We are seeking a motivated and success-oriented self-starter who is looking for an opportunity to be a key contributor to the continued growth of the company. Responsibility for Alberta and British Columbia provides near limitless potential in both the skylight and custom plastics sectors.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Perform sales and business development activities throughout Alberta and British Columbia for skylights and custom plastics.
  • Engage potential customers and assist with determining their needs and applicable product options.
  • Quote and close sales for individual homeowners, landlords and residential home developers (single and multi-unit).
  • Contribute to sales activities for commercial clients working closely with the General Manager.
  • Ensure job costing and estimating maintains margin and profitability targets, unless otherwise approved.
  • Investigate and resolve quality issues and customer concerns or complaints.
  • Communicate regular updates to the General Manager concerning sales activities, results against plan, operational challenges and customer satisfaction issues, immediately escalating critical items as required.
  • Contribute to the development of sales promotions.
  • Travel outside of Calgary up to 50-60% of time.

Requirements :

  • Experience with the sales of skylights or similar architectural products such as windows or doors.
  • Ability to interpret architectural / engineering drawings and requests for pricing and prepare accurate quotes.
  • Proficient in both written and verbal English, with the ability to undertake moderately complex technical correspondence and conversations.
  • Ability to review and interpret contracts, ensuring any additional work outside of project scope is identified.
  • Adept at multi-tasking and prioritizing in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, working well under pressure and meeting deadlines.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Formal training or certification in an applicable construction trade an asset.
  • Customer service oriented, with the ability to always represent Mac Skylights / Mac Plastics in a positive manner, maintaining a professional tone and approach to both verbal and written communications.
  • Integrity and accountability.
  • Willingness to learn and maintain a high level of product and industry knowledge.
  • A valid driver’s license with a minimum of 3 years driving experience and a clean driver’s abstract.
  • Candidates who have education, training, and / or experience equivalent to the qualifications listed above may be equally considered.
