Fike Corporation, a rapidly growing international manufacturer of pressure relief, explosion protection, fire suppression and detection equipment, has an opportunity for a Business Development Manager. Fike is a privately held business located in Blue Springs, MO with over 400 employees locally & over 1,200 employees worldwide.
Summary
Provides business development of Fike’s Explosion Protection Product Line focusing on direct territory sales. The position is responsible for identifying and calling on new customers, following up on leads that come into Fike EP direct territory from either the web, phone or through representatives to qualify those leads and develop a scope of work. The BDM will determine if that lead is budgeted, qualified and if the scope of work requires a turnkey sales approach. If the lead is not budgeted and confirmed, the BDM will continue to work with that customer until such project is qualified. If the project is budget and is a turnkey solution, the BDM will work with the Direct EP Sales lead to build a scope of work, develop and maintain key customers relationships and work as a team to sell a full solution to the end user. In addition to these responsibilities, the BDM will be responsible for selling after installation service contracts at existing and new customers once the project is complete. The BDM will also maintain the relationship with the installed base customers in a defined territory as determined by the National Sales Manager – EP. This position reports to the National Sales Manager – Explosion Protection. Regular travel is required.
Responsibilities
- Generate leads through market research, direct “cold” calling and following up on leads that come into Fike from various resources including existing Representative channels.
- Establish relationships with plant management, engineering and EHS representatives at potential customers to sell Explosion Protection solutions.
- Work as a team with the Direct EP BDM to sell full turnkey solutions and maximize scope.
- Sell service contracts to existing or new installations within the Fike customer installed base.
- Manage relationship with Explosion Protection Representatives to market, sell and grow the Explosion Protection products sales into a defined territory as defined by the National Sales Manager – Explosion Protection.
- Collaborates with the Explosion Product Manager to identify, develop and launch market development programs and penetration strategies resulting in the realization of new business.
- Builds relationships with strategic customers and other industry experts to monitor market dynamics, demand trends, and emerging markets.
- Identifies product changes needed to improve competitiveness and increase sales in each region.
- Identifies key markets Fike should enter (or pursue more aggressively) and develops specific go-to-market strategies and recommendations on how to penetrate those markets.
- Identifies new applications for existing products and works with business unit management to pursue designated opportunities.
- Helps the business unit identify potential new strategic accounts and partner with distribution channels to promote full turnkey solutions.
- Regularly travels to meet with customers, distributors/representatives, industry experts, and Fike personnel within North America.
- Maintains the confidentiality of all information processed.

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Engineering, Business, or related discipline preferred or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Five years post degree related experience.
- Expert knowledge of competitive technology and commercial activity in major global markets. Sales experience selling to explosion protection market.
- Proven success in cold calling new customers with direct selling experience and leading new product development.
- Demonstrated leadership and strategic planning skills.
- Ability to travel regularly and work collaboratively.
Preferred Qualifications
- National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) certification.
- Fire or explosion protection design and/or sales experience in multiple global regions. Knowledge of Fike products and services.
- Multi-lingual
