Title: Business Application Specialist, Procurement Technology

Effectively establish and coordinate technical business activities aligned with the goals of the Global Finance and Risk Technology (GFRT) organization within Scotiabank. Responsible for overseeing project completion and enhancements by business product owners within set time frames and budgets.

The main function of the Business Application Specialist, reporting to the Senior Manager, Procurement Technology, is to estimate, analyze, design, document, test, and support system solutions for Third-Party Risk Management (TPRM), Procure-to-Pay (P2P), and Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) for Global Procurement Services (GPS). This role supports project execution and system enhancements, adhering to software development lifecycle standards, testing, change management, and best practices in business intelligence technology. The individual will collaborate closely with stakeholders and technical teams, managing relationships with internal GPS partners and third-party vendors.

This hands-on role requires a thorough understanding of detailed system design. Domain expertise should include procurement processes, Supplier Relationship Management (SRM), TPRM, CLM, Category Sourcing, P2P, Incident Management, Audit compliance, Global Payments, IT enablers, digital transformation, SDLC frameworks, and integration methodologies.

In this role, you will:

  • Analyze and estimate highly complex business requirements and change requests.
  • Support business requirements documentation, review, and analysis with stakeholders.
  • Create technical specifications, configurations, and integrations to design or redesign processes and workflows.
  • Engage regularly with product stakeholders, users, and vendors to ensure system efficiency and functionality.
  • Utilize industry best practices for estimating, designing, testing, implementing, and supporting solutions.
  • Ensure quality, security, and compliance standards are met.
  • Coordinate design, development, and testing of technical solutions in complex environments.
  • Complete and document configurations for TPRM/CLM/P2P and integrations.
  • Work with technical teams to facilitate system integrations.
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture teams to ensure consistency across systems.
  • Present requirements, architecture, and design options to stakeholders and vendors.
  • Identify strategic opportunities for cross-functional improvements.
  • Document business processes, data models, applications, and interfaces.
  • Provide guidelines and SOPs for onboarding users.
  • Support Product Owners with learning and communication materials.
  • Communicate regularly with stakeholders and vendors on work status.
  • Manage access and licensing requests.
  • Ensure applications meet regulatory standards and documentation is current.
  • Coordinate outage responses and communicate resolutions, including root cause analysis.
  • Handle audit responses and report findings to relevant parties.
  • Monitor Key Risk Indicators for application performance and compliance.
  • Provide backup support for incident management when needed.

Qualifications for success:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.
  • 2-3 years of experience in technical business analysis and systems.
  • CBAP certification or equivalent experience is an asset.
  • Experience in procurement, TPRM, payments/invoicing, or related industries.
  • Experience with system design, development, and implementation.
  • Knowledge of S2S, P2P solutions (e.g., Icertis, Coupa), risk assessment tools, data management, BI reporting, and project tracking software.
  • Strong understanding of cloud services, especially SaaS, and system integration solutions.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of industry trends, regulations, and compliance in finance and banking.
  • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) are a strong asset.
