Job summary

Armour Group Limited in Halifax is seeking a dedicated Food and Beverage Building Technician to support day-to-day maintenance of HVAC systems and kitchen equipment across multiple sites in HRM, including downtown Halifax, Bedford, and Dartmouth.

The role requires flexibility with occasional evenings and weekends, a proactive approach, and the ability to collaborate with internal clients and contractors to keep operations running smoothly.

Qualifications

  • 2–5 years of experience with HVAC systems, ideally in food service or kitchen equipment settings.
  • Strong understanding of kitchen equipment maintenance and related technologies.
  • Excellent relationship-building and collaborative skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the operations and maintenance of HVAC and kitchen equipment across multiple sites.
  • Respond to internal client requests and provide timely support to minimize downtime.
  • Participate in preventive maintenance programs to extend equipment life and reduce disruptions.
  • Monitor utilities and equipment issues; liaise with contractors and vendors as needed.
  • Maintain inventory of spare parts and consumables for urgent repairs.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and policies, including exhaust hood and duct cleaning.

Position Overview

We are looking for a dedicated Food and Beverage Building Technician to join our growing team in Halifax. This role is essential to the day-to-day operations and maintenance of multiple food and beverage establishments across the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM), including locations in downtown Halifax, Bedford, and Dartmouth. You will be responsible for ensuring that HVAC systems and kitchen equipment are operating smoothly across multiple sites. The role requires flexibility, with occasional evening and weekend availability.

What you will be doing
  • Assisting in the general operations and maintenance of HVAC and kitchen equipment systems in various food and beverage establishments.
  • Responding to internal client requests and providing timely support to ensure minimal downtime of equipment.
  • Participating in and executing preventive maintenance programs to extend the life of equipment and avoiding operational disruptions.
  • Monitoring and investigating utility anomalies and equipment issues; liaising with contractors and vendors when necessary.
  • Maintaining an inventory of spare parts and consumables, ensuring readiness for urgent repairs.
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and policies, particularly related to exhaust hood and duct cleaning, and performing regular checks.
  • Developing and implementing preventative maintenance protocols in consideration of operational hours and peak times.
  • Fostering positive relationships with internal clients and contractors, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
What we’re looking for
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of experience with HVAC systems, ideally in food service or kitchen equipment settings.
  • Strong understanding of kitchen equipment maintenance, including HVAC systems and related technologies.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills and a collaborative approach with team members and clients.
  • Ability to manage time effectively, prioritizing tasks based on urgency and operational needs.
  • A proactive attitude with a willingness to learn and grow within the company.
  • Experience managing contractors and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends as required.
