Job summary

Canderel is seeking a Building Operator to support safe, efficient, and professional day-to-day operation of assigned commercial properties, including HVAC, life safety, and tenant services.

The role requires a 5th Class Power Engineering Certification with ABSA registration and 3–5 years of experience in commercial building maintenance. Strong communication and time-management skills are essential for on-site teams and contractors.

Qualifications

• Active 5th Class Power Engineering Certification with ABSA registration.
• 3–5 years of experience in commercial building maintenance.
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Ability to work as both a team player and independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Operate, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot building systems including HVAC, boilers, plumbing, electrical, lighting, life safety, security, access control, and related infrastructure.
• Respond to tenant requests, service calls, and operational concerns in a timely, professional, and customer-focused manner.
• Conduct routine inspections of interior and exterior property conditions including mechanical rooms, vacant premises, roofs, parking areas, sidewalks, landscaping, loading zones, waste enclosures, and common areas.
• Perform preventative maintenance, operational testing, equipment inspections, and minor repairs to building systems, fixtures, and common area assets.
• Assist with the operation, inspection, testing, documentation, and regulatory compliance of fire alarm, sprinkler, emergency lighting, generator, and other life safety systems.
