Job summary

City of Hamilton is seeking a diligent Caretaker to perform general cleaning and maintenance across CityHousing buildings on a five-day schedule, including weekends. The role requires attention to safety, ability to interact with tenants, and adherence to Health and Safety regulations.

Responsibilities include cleaning, pest-control preparation support, and reporting building issues. A valid G-class driver’s license and reliable transportation are required to access all sites.

Qualifications

• Previous cleaning experience related to duties listed.
• Working knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment.
• Ability to read and clearly understand written and verbal instructions for the safe operation of simple equipment such as buffing machine and a vacuum and handling of cleaning chemicals.
• Must be physically capable to carry out caretaking duties. Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Good written and verbal communication skills to deal with tenants, contractors, emergency personnel and housing staff.
• Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation such as Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations including WHMIS legislation.
• Basic mathematical knowledge, to safely mix cleaning agents/chemicals.
• Understanding of M.S.D.S. (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System).
• Must possess a valid Class "G" Drivers Licence and reliable transportation for use on the job.

Responsibilities

• Keyholder duties.
• Vacuums carpets, runners and steams upholstered furniture, and cleans as identified.
• Cleans equipment and reports malfunctions.
• Shovels and salts main entrances.
• Performs litter and garbage clean-up around property.
• Power washes garbage rooms and removes graffiti.
• Mops/sweeps and buffers floors.
• Dusts desks, tables, countertops, chairs and equipment.
• Removes fingerprints from walls and doors; polishes elevator doors and stairwells.
• Walks the property daily and reports building deficiencies.
