Responsibilities

• Remove debris from parking lots, patios, and balconies; perform floor cleaning and refinishing tasks.
• Set up rooms for meetings and events according to work orders and floor plans.
• Move furnishings and assist during resident relocations and emergency evacuations.

• The candidate will be responsible for cleaning and operating various equipment, including scrubbing machines, buffers, carpet and furniture cleaners, wet/dry vacuums, can washers, and pressure washers.
• The candidate will be responsible for transporting garbage, recycling, compost, and soiled laundry to designated processing areas.
• The candidate will be responsible for removing and sweeping debris from parking lots, patios, and balconies.
• The candidate will be responsible for dry mopping and wet mopping floors and placing caution signs as required.
• The candidate will be responsible for moving furnishings, including hospital beds, filing cabinets, lockers, and desks, as required.
• The candidate will be responsible for distributing and transporting supplies to various areas and sections of the facility.
• The candidate will be responsible for setting up rooms for special functions according to work orders and floor plans while interpreting requirements for meetings and events.
• The candidate will be responsible for transporting and positioning residents’ furnishings as required.
• The candidate will be responsible for refinishing floors through scrubbing, stripping, top-coating, and finishing procedures.
• The candidate will be responsible for vacuuming and extracting carpets and furniture to maintain cleanliness standards.
• The candidate will be responsible for cleaning walls, stairs, and furnishings, including tasks requiring the use of a step-ladder.
• The candidate will be responsible for cleaning windows, doors, elevators, and window blinds using step-ladders when required.
• The candidate will be responsible for cleaning and disinfecting washrooms, resident rooms, offices, kitchens, storage areas, and common spaces.
• The candidate will be responsible for removing and reinstalling drapes, privacy curtains, and window blinds, including step-ladder use when required.
• The candidate will be responsible for assisting during emergency evacuations by safely transporting residents as required.
• The candidate will be responsible for responding to emergency floods and spills and completing required clean-up activities.
• The candidate must work in accordance with applicable Health and Safety legislation and follow all City of Hamilton corporate and departmental policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety.
• The candidate will be responsible for performing other assigned duties that are directly related to the primary responsibilities of the position.

Job Requirements

• The candidate must possess previous cleaning experience acquired through a combination of relevant education and practical work experience.
• The candidate will be preferred if they have prior experience performing cleaning duties in a health-care environment.
• The candidate must demonstrate the ability to safely operate cleaning equipment, including auto scrubbing machines, buffers, carpet and furniture cleaners, pressure washers, and can washers.
• The candidate must be physically capable of performing floor refinishing duties and possess previous experience with scrubbing, stripping, top-coating, and finishing floor surfaces.
• The candidate must be physically capable of cleaning windows, blinds, walls, stairs, elevators, and furnishings, including tasks requiring the use of step-ladders.
• The candidate must be self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple tasks and working effectively under pressure.
• The candidate must maintain confidentiality at all times and demonstrate the ability to communicate clearly and interact professionally with peers and seniors in a Long-Term Care facility.
• The candidate must demonstrate the ability to read and interpret work orders and floor plans to prepare for special meetings and functions.
• The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment used in facility cleaning operations.

Work conditions and physical capabilities

• The candidate must be physically capable of lifting and carrying up to 20 kg, applying pushing and pulling force of up to 20 kg, and moving hospital beds, 95-gallon recycling totes, filing cabinets, specialty mattresses, and desks.
