Job summary

City of Hamilton in Hamilton, Ontario is seeking a motivated Housekeeping Aide to join our team on a temporary, part-time basis.

The role focuses on cleaning sinks, toilets, mirrors, floors, and other areas, operating vacuums and carpet sweepers, and following health and safety policies.

Candidates should have cleaning experience, ideally in health-care settings, ability to read instructions, communicate clearly, and handle lifting up to 15 kilograms.

Qualifications

• The candidate must possess previous cleaning experience acquired through a combination of relevant education and practical work experience.
• The candidate will be preferred if they have prior experience performing cleaning duties in a health-care setting.
• The candidate must possess previous experience operating cleaning equipment, including vacuums, carpet sweepers, and mops, within a health-care facility.
• The candidate must demonstrate the ability to read, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
• The candidate must demonstrate the ability to communicate clearly and maintain respectful working relationships with peers and seniors in a Long-Term Care facility.
• The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of cleaning methods, infection control procedures, materials, and equipment used in a health-care environment.
• The candidate must demonstrate the ability to successfully complete and apply knowledge gained through in-service training.

Responsibilities

• Clean sinks, toilets, urinals, mirrors, towel dispensers, windows, and other furnishings.
• Sweep, mop floors and stairs, and vacuum carpets to maintain cleanliness standards.
• Empty, clean, and maintain waste containers as required.
• Clean walls, light covers, venetian blinds, vents, doors, and radiators within arm’s reach.
• Lift, carry, and move supplies and furnishings as required.
• Operate cleaning equipment, including vacuums and carpet sweepers.
• Clean equipment, replace vacuum bags, and report equipment malfunctions.
• Identify and report building and equipment repairs as required.
• Replenish cleaning and paper supplies as required.
• Water flowers and plants as required.
• Respond to emergency evacuations and safely transport able and disabled residents as required.
• Follow Health and Safety legislation and City of Hamilton policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety.
• Perform other assigned duties that are directly related to the primary responsibilities of the position.

Work conditions and physical capabilities
