Job summary

The City of New Westminster is seeking a Building Service Worker to join the Facilities Maintenance team. The role covers cleaning, janitorial, maintenance, repair, and related custodial tasks across civic buildings and facilities, with emphasis on Parks Washrooms.

The schedule is Thursday to Monday, 10:30am–6:30pm, and a Police Information Check is required. Ideal candidates have Grade 12, a Building Service Worker Certificate, and proven experience; they are detail oriented, capable with

Qualifications

• Completed Grade 12 or equivalent.
• Building Service Worker Certificate and related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Detail oriented and conscientious about quality in your work.
• Expert in the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in janitorial work.
• Adept of operating automatic heating and ventilation units.
• Self-motivated and proactive with minimal supervision.
• Experience with cleaning during facility events.
• Ability to engage staff and interact with the public to improve customer experiences.
• Knowledgeable in routine and minor building repair and maintenance tasks.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Skilled in use and care of cleaning and maintenance equipment.
• Flexible and available to cover emergent shifts.
• Able to pass and maintain a Police Information Check (PIC).

Responsibilities

• Sweep, vacuum, wax and polish floors and related areas.
• Wash basins, sinks, toilets, windows, doors and surfaces.
• Clean stairs and outdoor areas; clear snow and ice.
• Operate, clean and perform minor servicing of heating, ventilation and hot water units.
• Perform minor maintenance, repair and painting.
• Ensure building security and assist the public and user groups.
• Complete logbooks and written materials as required.
• Assist with events cleaning and setup.

The City of New Westminster is seeking a keen and enthusiastic Building Service Worker to be part of our Facilities Maintenance team, to perform cleaning, janitorial, maintenance, repair and other important custodial tasks required to maintain our various Civic buildings and facilities to the highest standard.

The incumbent of this role must be willing and available to work in various City buildings and facilities, however this vacancy is currently assigned to the maintenance and cleaning of outside Parks Washrooms.

The current schedule for this vacancy is Thursday - Monday 10:30am - 6:30pm, however work schedule and location may be subject to change in future based on operational requirements, with appropriate notice period.

Your duties will include sweeping, vacuuming, waxing and polishing floors, hallways and related areas; washing hand basins, sinks and toilets; cleaning windows, doors, shelves and other surfaces; cleaning and sweeping steps and clearing snow and ice around the buildings; operating, cleaning and minor servicing of automatic heating, hot water and ventilation units; performing minor maintenance, repair and painting; ensuring building security and providing assistance to the public and user groups; completing logbooks and other written materials; and other related work as required.

• You are knowledgeable in and able to perform routine and minor building repair and maintenance tasks
• You have the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
• You are skilled in the use and care of cleaning and maintenance equipment
• You are flexible and available to assist with immediate and emergent coverage requirements
• You must be able to pass and maintain a clear Police Information Check (PIC)
